Product Description

It is a plant native to higher altitudes and normally grows in the mountains, which is how it got the name “Oregano”, which means “Delight of the Mountains”. This oil has many medicinal properties. Oregano is a warm and aromatic yet slightly bitter herb in the mint family. It is a very flavorful herb that is often used in Italian, Greek and Spanish cooking.

Extraction:
The Essential Oil of Oregano is extracted through steam distillation of fresh oregano leaves. Has sharp and herbaceous aroma.

Main constituent:
Carvacrol, Thymol, Cymene, Caryophyllene, Pinene, Bisabolene, Linalool, Borneol, Geranyl Acetate, Linalyl Acetate and Terpinene.

Oregano essential oil contains  naturally occurring constituent carvacrol which gives this oil its antibacterial properties. It is a key oil in the Raindrop Technique. It is high in phenols, as is thyme, clove, basil, tea tree and peppermint essential oils,  Oregano is used for respiratory tract disorders such as coughs, asthma, croup, and bronchitis. It is also used for gastrointestinal (GI) disorders such as heartburn and bloating. Other uses include treating menstrual cramps, rheumatoid arthritis, urinary tract infections (UTIs), headaches, and heart conditions. A study from the US Department of Agriculture showed that oregano essential oils presented antimicrobial activities against Salmonella and E.coli. A recent study from the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Georgetown University Medical Center, stated the following in regard to the role of essential oils for infections: “New, safe antimicrobial agents are needed to prevent and overcome severe bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. Based on our previous experience and that of others, we postulated that herbal essential oils, such as those of origanum (oregano oil)…offer such possibilities.”
