Benefits of Using Neti Pot

Benefits of Using Neti Pot
A Lovely Monday Morning to You All!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS. FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING

Do you know………..A neti pot is used for nasal irrigation. It simply means the act of flushing out our nasal cavity. The word “Neti”, is derived from Sanskrit for “Nasal Cleansing.”  Neti pot has been used in Indian culture for centuries to treat respiratory problems and originated in Ayurvedic medicine.

                         Benefits of Using Neti Pot

It is becoming popular around the world and in Western culture too, because unlike over-the-counter medications, neti pot use doesn’t cause any unpleasant side effects. In fact, many doctors recommend using a neti pot for general nasal congestion, as well as colds, allergies, and sinus infections. I want to share my personal experience about neti pot use. This time during my travel, I had a bad episode of Vertigo. As usual, I took some Allopathic medicines to control my Vertigo. I did get a temporary relief, but had recurrence. Fortunately, I came across a Yoga guru at my relative’s place, who highly recommended and demonstrated the use of this amazing neti pot. I reluctantly tried it and immediately felt such a relief in my ear pressure together with clearing of my nasal passage. I showed my gratitude to him and used it once daily for a week. Since then, I have been using neti pot regularly 2-3 times a week.

Neti pot is a device that cleanses and refreshes the nasal passage. Neti pot resembles a long spouted teapot and can be made from various materials, such as plastic, steel, copper, or ceramic. Our nasal passage is the body’s first defense against irritants, allergens and even pollution (harmful particles) keeping them away from our lungs and respiratory system. Using a neti pot helps flush mucus out and keeps our nasal passage healthy. Benefits of using Neti pot:

  • Neti pot is affordable and easily accessible
  • Clear the nostrils to facilitate easy breathing
  • Remove excess mucous and nasal congestion
  • Ease sinus headaches
  • Reduce the need for antiallergy medicines
  • Reduce pollen or allergens in nasal passages
  • Relieve nasal dryness
  • Reduce cold and flu symptoms
  • Alleviate sinus headaches
  • Improve sense of smell and taste
  • Prevent upper respiratory infections and cold
  • Reduce snoring

Safety and How to Use a Neti Pot:

  • Pour saline solution (3/4th full) in a clean neti pot.
  • Lean forward over a sink and tilt head sideways at about a 45 degree angle. Place the neti pot’s spout in the upper nostril (the one closer to the ceiling).
  • Making sure to breathe through your open mouth, slowly pour half of the neti pot’s solution into that upper nostril. You will immediately see the neti pot solution begin to come out of the lower nostril. Which is a signal that the nasal irrigation process has begun.
  • Repeat the same process on the other side.
  • The whole process doesn’t take more than around 5 minutes. If any of the solution runs into your throat just spit it out and blow your nose to get rid of any leftover solution and/or mucus. Repeat the process with your other nostril. Make sure clean your neti pot well after each and every use, let it air dry, store in a clean area.
  • Use the cleanest and purest water such as, filtered, sterile, distilled water (can be purchased from stores), or boiled tap water (cool down to lukewarm temperature), because we are trying to remove contaminants, not add more.
  • You can use sea salt, kosher salt or a plain cooking salt for neti pot solution. Avoid using iodized salt as it can cause stinging.
  • Saline solution can be bought, a pre-made sinus rinse or can be made at home simply by combining one cup of purified water (as mentioned above) with a quarter teaspoon to a half teaspoon of non-iodized salt, stir to dissolve, and use.
  • Person with a history of nosebleeds may want to avoid nasal irrigation.
  • Discontinue use if sinus issues worsen.

Health Benefits of Carrier Oils in Aromatherapy

Health Benefits of Carrier Oils in Aromatherapy
A Lovely Monday Morning to You All!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS. FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING

Do you know……. Carrier oils are so named because they carry essential oil onto the skin during massage and aromatherapy. Carrier oils are used to dilute concentrated essential oils for applications without

                                     Carrier Oil

experiencing any side effects. Carrier oils are usually vegetable oils derived from the seeds, kernels, or nuts of a plant. People also sometimes use Aloe Vera gel and unscented body lotions as carriers. Carrier Oils are also referred to as “fixed oils” due to the fact that they do not quickly evaporate from the skin’s surface and remain fixed on the skin. Carrier oils are obtained from fruits, nuts and seeds through Cold Pressing, Expeller Pressing, Oil Maceration, and Solvent Extraction. Macerated Oil is used as a solvent or a base oil in order to extract the fat-soluble properties of other botanical materials and become infused with their therapeutic properties. Therefore, a Macerated Oil is sometimes referred to as an Infused Oil. The most commonly used base oils are Olive or Sunflower Oils.

Most carrier oils are unscented or have light sweet, nutty scent and don’t interfere with an essential oil’s therapeutic properties. Each Carrier Oil is comprised of different components (fat-soluble vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other nutrients) that exhibit distinct characteristics, such as colour, viscosity, penetration speed, and therapeutic properties. The choice of a Carrier Oil is dependent on the desired result. Unlike essential oils, they do not evaporate. Most carrier oil is user friendly, but Peanut oil like true nuts, have potential to cause allergic reactions, regardless of their concentration. Because nut oils generally do not contain the proteinaceous part of the plant, which would cause the allergic response, they are usually not allergenic, but it is highly recommended that Peanut and nut-derived oils be avoided by those with nut allergies. These oils can be comfortably substituted with other hypoallergenic oils.

Types of Carrier Oils: Carrier Oils can be categorized by their solidity: Hard and Soft Oil

HARD OILS: are solid at room temperature. They add firmness to a finished product such as soap bars. The most popular hard oils are: Palm, Coconut. They must be melted before use.

SOFT OILS are liquid at room temperature. They add nourishing property. The most popular soft oils are: Olive, Canola, Rice bran, Sweet Almond.

Before substituting one oil for another in the formula, consider the finished product texture, the firmness, moisture, or even lather? Main carrier oils and their properties:

Nut Oils: Almond, Macadamia, Hazelnut, Walnut carrier oils. Extremely emollient, good for sensitive, dry, inflamed and sore skin, stimulate circulation, anti-inflammatory, facilitate wound healing, maintain skin tightness and elasticity.

Seed Oils: Broccoli, Carrot, Borage, Black currant carrier oils. Rejuvenate mature aging skin complexion, repair damage caused by dryness, soothe itching and discomfort caused by burns, reduce scarring.

Fruit and Kernel Oils: Coconut, Apricot, Avocado, Grape Seed, Peach Kernel, Olive. Gentle, softening, and nourishing, light in texture to moisturize, for sensitive skin, good for aging skin, anti-oxidant properties.

Essential Fatty Acid Oils: Argan, Calendula, Evening Primrose, Rosehip carrier oils. Hydrate and soothe itchy, dry, inflamed, and acne-prone skin, Anti-inflammatory, Anti-bacterial, Anti-fungal, Anti-septic, balance essential fatty acid deficiency and skin’s oil production, balance hormones, astringent properties that facilitate wound healing.

Benefits of Clove Essential Oil

Benefits of Clove Essential Oil
A Lovely Monday Morning to You All!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING

Do you know………. about a month back, I felt some inflammation and pain around back of my upper teeth gum. Being a Clinical Aromatherapist, I immediately thought of Clove Essential Oil. What I did, in a 5ml glass vial, I combined 2 drops of Clove Essential Oil with 1tsp of Olive Oil, mixed well, labeled. Applied 3-4 drops of this Clove oil blend on a swab tip and gently swiped the affected area being careful not to touch the swab to other parts of the mouth or lips as Clove oil is a hot, potent oil. Repeated this twice a day for couple of days. By second day, I was very happy to notice significant reduction in pain and swelling. So, continued this treatment for another 2-3 days and my pain and swelling disappeared completely. Of course, if it wouldn’t have helped in first 2 days, I would have contacted my Dentist.

What Is Clove Bud Oil?

Clove essential oil possess a variety of medicinal properties and have a distinct strong aroma. The main bioactive element in Clove is called Eugenol, that has strong analgesic and antiseptic properties, together with vitamin C, potassium and calcium content. Clove oil blends well with many other essential oils including; Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Basil, Rosemary, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Orange, Geranium essential oil.

At physical level 3% toxin gets cleared through daily bowel movement, 7% gets cleared through urination, 20% gets cleared through perspiration, and the remaining 70% detoxification is done through breathing process. Unfortunately, since the 20th century, we have been increasingly getting exposed to new toxins from denatured foods and drinks, regular use of intoxicants such as alcohol and marijuana, cigarettes, pesticides, herbicides, petroleum by-products, air and water

Therefore, it is very important to do total detoxification at physical, emotional, and spiritual level with self-realization by practicing; Yoga, Meditation, Deep breathing, Exercising, Walking-Jogging, doing Charity, and adding Aromatherapy to your daily routine. Essential Oils possess therapeutic properties and are natural, volatile, concentrated, liquid extracts from different parts of plants. Essential oils work on many levels as physical toxins are removed, negative thoughts and emotions are also released. Aromatherapy for Aching Feet

Aromatherapy for Aching Feet
A Lovely Monday Morning to You All!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING

Do you know……. Our feet is the most neglected part of our body, while they deserve lot of pampering. Because, our feet carry our weight (light or heavy) day after day without any vacation except for the night time when most of us are in bed sleeping or if we are sick.

           Aromatherapy Foot Scrub

We cram our feet into tight socks, gym shoes, and pinching high heels, or standing around chatting-working, or walking to class-work-to the car, or running to catch a train-bus, or exercising, etc., etc. Energetically the feet represent our connection with earth and rooting us to Mother Nature, the sense of being grounded.

There are 26 bones in each foot and there are over 7,000 nerve endings called reflexes that correspond to every organ and system within our body. By pressing on these reflex points, we can stimulate the nervous system and open energy pathways that may be blocked or congested. That’s why when we walk bare feet on fine sand or soft grass, we get the mesmerizing euphoric feel.

We should not wait to take care of our feet only when it starts to hurt, rather give it a tender loving care (TLC) at regular interval with reflexology, footbath and foot massage with Essential oil, that can reduce pain, stress, dryness, and can have calming effect. Essential Oils are natural, volatile, concentrated, liquid extract of plants with amazing individual therapeutic properties and have been used since centuries to cure different ailments. Especially, people with diabetes can have more damaged nerve endings. Here is couple of my Essential Oil blends that you could make at home and enjoy the affordable spa like treatment.

Relaxing Sugar Pedi Scrub:

¼ cup fine white sugar

                      Foot Scrub

¼ cup brown sugar

½ cup Olive oil (can use Almond Carrier Oil)

15 drs Lavender Essential Oil (for winter can use Cinnamon E. Oil)

15 drs Lemon Essential Oil

10 drs Peppermint Essential Oil

8 drs Geranium Essential Oil (can use Ylang ylang E. Oil)

5 drs Vit E

Put sugar in a glass bowl. Add essential oils in different places on sugar mixture, Vit E, and mix well making sure no lumps present. Store in individual tin or glass containers or in a large glass jar, close the lid. Label.

The best way to take full advantage of the scrub is to have a footbath ready (heat up 2-3 pints of water, pour into a foot bowl or any large pan-tub-bucket that you could soak feet). First gently massage the scrub on your ankles and feet, then soak feet in the ready footbath for 10-15 minutes or till the water is warm, gently wash off the residual scrub in the footbath water, and pat dry your feet with a towel. Or if you just want to soak the feet in warm footbath without massaging the foot scrub, add 1/4 cup of Epsom salt and some Essential Oil (may be 4 drops Lavender Essential Oil, 2 drops Lemon Essential Oil, 2 drops Tea tree Essential Oil) to give your achy-tired feet some relief, wash off any foot odour, and feel rejuvenated.
