Vetiveria zizanioides or Andropogon muricatus is popularly known as Khas Khas, Khas or Khus. Vetiver is a perennial aromatic grass, native to India and is widely cultivated in the tropical regions of the world. It has been in traditional use since ancient times for its earthy, woody, yet sweet-smelling scent. It is widely used in perfumes, cosmetics, scented soaps suitable both for men and women, and for flavouring sherbets (Indian cold drinks).
Extraction:
Steam distillation of dried roots. It improves with age. This essential Oil is known as “Oil of Tranquility” in India.
Major Constituents:
Alpha & Beta Vetivone, Zizanal and Epizizanal were isolated from the oil.
