Aromatic Reed Diffuser

Aromatic Reed Diffuser
A Lovely  Monday Morning to you all!

PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know…….Reed diffuser is an elegant way to aromatize any room without the use of heat or flame. Homemade Aromatherapy reed diffuser is very popular and is an excellent holiday gift that can be customized in many ways. So get creative and have fun.

With Corona pandemic and with new cases of the novel coronavirus being reported daily around the world, here is a simple DIY disinfecting reed diffuser recipe:

Disinfecting Aromatic Reed Diffuser

           Disinfecting Reed Diffuser

6 drops Bergamot Essential Oil

4 drops Lemon grass Essential Oil

4 drops Lavender Essential Oil

4 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil

¼ Cup Apricot or Jojoba Carrier Oil

2 Tbsp Alcohol

Rattan Reeds and a glass jar with narrow neck

Add ¼ cup of Apricot Seed or Jojoba Carrier oil (or can use Dipropylene glycol, but I don’t like using it) to a glass measuring cup, now add 2Tbsp of alcohol (Vodka or rubbing alcohol), and above essential oils (or add 15-20drops of  your desired Essential Oils). Stir the mixture well with a reed stick and pour it in a narrow neck glass bottle or jar. Add the rattan reeds to the bottle so that the ends are submerged fully in the oil (Rattan reeds can be cut to desired length if needed). The reeds soak up the scent and emit a pleasant aroma in any room or office space.Turn the reeds upside down once in couple of weeks to get the most aroma from the mixture. Once a month can top up with more essential oils, depending on how much mixture is left. Base note essential oils tend to last much longer than top notes.

FYI: According to WHO (World Health Organization), Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. This virus is mainly transmitted through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or exhales. Most people who get COVID-19 have mild or moderate symptoms, cough, fever, difficulty breathing, can recover if seek medical care early. The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is being well informed about the cause and the spread of the disease. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing hands or using an alcohol based rub frequently, Cover your nose and mouth with your bent elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze, don’t touch your face with dirty hands, and maintaining social distancing of 6 feet (about 2 arms’ length) from other people. The current statistics is, more than 491,000 people have died from COVID-19, while more than 9.6 million confirmed cases in at least 188 countries and territories and more than 4.8 million people have recovered to date.

Importance of Thoughts in Our Lives

Importance of Thoughts in Our Lives
A Lovely  Monday Morning to you all!

PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know…….We have heard many times that thoughts manifest and thoughts become the reality of life. The entire process of our living starts in our head based on our life time thoughts. Our thoughts whether positive or negative, not only affect us, but also the people around us. Once I read a quote of Mahatma Gandhi, “Our thoughts decide our actions and our actions define us.”

Importance of Thoughts in Our Lives

We generally yield to our feelings and make instant decisions. If we don’t have a healthy mind, and healthy thoughts, we can’t have a healthy physical body either. We have two types of mind; Conscious and Subconscious mind. We emit vibrations through our subconscious mind that produces positive or negative energy based on our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs, which defines our personality, our actions. You will notice, people walking around upbeat will rub off that Positive energy to whoever comes in contact with them and we all want to be around that person. While, Negative attitudes undermine our confidence, determination, willpower, and feeling sorry for ourselves, as well as pulling down everyone around us.

It’s a human psychology to find something or someone to blame for the atrocities in our lives. In certain cases, it is the truth then, it is our own fault to trust someone so much so, to let them manipulate and ruin our life. This ultimately can have a seriously detrimental effect on our general health and well-being. We just have to break loose our negative, destructive thought pattern of daily living and rewire the subconscious mind to evolve personal excellence. We will notice the positive impact on our physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

Researchers studied that it’s important to feed high energy words, thoughts in our body and mind before sleeping to slow down our mind. Instead of watching crime, detective, or scary shows, or negative news, or thinking of disputes, or failures before bed time, that would disturb our mental state and our sleep. This can lead into a vicious cycle of negative thinking that holds us back and hurts us in our lives. We all know the phrase, “Garbage in-garbage out.” Therefore, it’s essential that we don’t let our critical inner voice slip into our thoughts without our knowledge and mess up our thinking patterns.

To attain happiness and get rid of negative thoughts, we can follow these guidelines:

  • Give gratitude to the Almighty, to our family, to our care takers, to our nature, and to our health.
  • Think only what we want to be with positive affirmations.
  • Staying Grounded: by regularly practicing meditation, yoga, mindfulness, and exercising, will help with our hormonal balance, which in turn will keep our stress and anxiety in check.
  • Avoid negativity and toxic, deceitful people, who can’t be the support we require.
  • Indulge in creative activities that gives pleasure, but haven’t had time for it before. We deserve it.
  • Walk in nature to get connected with our surroundings and the beautiful Mother Nature.
  • Be compassionate to others and spread kindness, we will receive the same with blessings in return.
  • Spend quality times with our loved ones.
  • Consume healthy diet filled with positivity and high energy, because we are what we eat.
  • Finally, smell the aroma of favorite Essential oil that has the power to deviate us from our usual thought pattern and help dispel negativity.

Essential Oils are natural, volatile, concentrated, liquid plant extracts with individual therapeutic properties and have been used since ancient times to cure different ailments. A sense of smell is one of the five senses and a powerful connector between people and the world around them. Suggested oils that are uplifting and help the majority of people feel happy include; Citrus scents: Bergamot, Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit, and Tangerine, Minty scents: Peppermint, Spearmint and Pennyroyal.

Neroli (helps with anxiety and panic), Roman and German Chamomiles, Helichrysum (helps with the feelings of frustration, bitterness and anger), Spikenard, Lavender and Rose (help with overall feelings of no self-worth). Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Rosemary, Patchouli, Melissa, Coriander, Sweet Marjoram, Frankincense, Myrrh, Vetiver, Clary Sage, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Hyssop, Pine needle, Tea Tree, Ginger, Geranium, Juniper berry, Thyme help to cultivate positivity.

By surrounding ourselves with these aromas, we can affect the way we feel about ourselves and other people we come into contact with. We will find a tremendous peace, strength and courage within, that leads to a quiet state where simple solutions can often be found to what were previously seen as complicated problems.

Mood Lifting Positive Thinking Diffuser Blend:

2 drops Geranium Essential Oil

2 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil

2 drops Frankincense Essential Oil

Add these oils to your diffuser as desired to enjoy the calming, soothing aroma for positive effect.

Association of Colors with Aromatherapy in Healing

Association of Colors with Aromatherapy in Healing
A Lovely  Monday Morning to you all!

PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know……… Both color therapy and aromatherapy, an alternative, natural,  healing modalities for specific disorders and problems, are based on vibration healing methods. The basic concept of vibrational medicine is to treat the whole person: body, mind and spirit. According to Natural medicine, the symptoms of disease (dis-ease) are produced by energetic imbalances in our body, and the treatments with natural and bio-energetic therapies, collaborate with the predisposition of the body to heal itself.

White light is composed of a spectrum of colors (Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red). Color is Energy. Each color has a particular wavelength and each vibrates at a certain frequency that has a specific effect on the human (hue-man) body and on our energy centers (Chakras). We are unaware that these color rays are always affecting us physically, psychologically, emotionally and spiritually. When certain colors fall on the retina of our eyes, our nerve cells vibrate throwing back emotions, feelings, and thoughts of sadness, joy, nostalgia, etc. The slower-moving frequencies (red, orange and yellow) tend to stimulate the body and the faster-moving frequencies (turquoise, blue and violet) tend to soothe it. For example, Red color frequency is stimulating and has an energizing activating effect, whereas Pale Blue’s faster frequency has relaxing and calming effect on the body and mind.

Similarly, Essential Oil molecules are filled with living pulsating vibrations at different frequencies and are also associated with different colors.

Dominique Baudoux, a pharmacist, a world renowned aromatologists, and the president of Pranarôm laboratories, refers to essential oils as “Solar Essences.”  He investigated the frequency of essential oils between 52-320 MHz, the highest among all known organic substances. In comparison, fresh herbs measure 20-27 MHz; dried herbs 12-22 MHz; and fresh products, 5-10 MHz, while processed or canned foods measure zero. Later, it was discovered that the frequency of oils is affected by our thoughts; negative thoughts decreased frequency of oils by 12 MHz, whereas positive thoughts raised them by 10 MHz, and the prayer raised the frequency by 15 MHz. On an average, the healthy human body has a frequency of 62 to 72 MHz and gets influenced by our behavior and thoughts. Therefore, it’s important to surround ourselves with things that have a positive frequency.

The frequencies of some common essential oils are:

Rose 320 MHz (although, some research has indicated that Idaho Blue Spruce can reach up to 580 MHz).

Frankincense: 147 MHz

Lavender: 118 MHz

Sandalwood: 98 MHz

Peppermint: 78 MHz

Basil: 52 MHz

Essential oils and corresponding Colors for Chakra balancing

We and everything around us is made up of energy. This energy connects us to one another, to the universe, allows us to attract love, health, joy, and positivity. The energy rises from the base of the spine to the crown of the body. There are 7 main chakras in the human body where subtle energy channels, known as Nadis converge.  Each chakra has a coordinating color, organ representation and location in the physical body. Here are different essentials oils, their colors and the Chakras (starting from the base and moving upwards) they could effect:

Mooladhara (Root) Chakra: is the first chakra at the base of the energy system, Its color is Red – Red Rose, Red Thyme, Red Cabbage, Black Pepper, Sage, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Jasmine and Camphor essential oils are red in color and can be used to balance and activate the root chakra associated with passion, sexual energy and reconnection with Mother Earth.

Swadisthana (Sacral) Chakra:  located in Lower abdomen, about 2 inches below the navel. Color is Orange – Cypress, Neroli, Ginger, Carrot seed, Nutmeg, Aniseed, Calendula, Marigold essential oils are orange in color and can be used to remove blockages from the sacral chakra for enjoyment and contentment.

Manipura (Solar Plexus) Chakra:  located in Upper abdomen in the stomach area above the navel. Color is Yellow– Lemon, Citronella, Cilantro, Grapefruit, Basil, Fennel, Sandalwood, Caraway essential oils can be used for removing blocks from solar plexus chakra for the clarity of mind and to foster positive energy for personal transformation.

Anahata (Heart) chakra:  located in the Center of chest just above the heart. Color is Green– include Rose, Rosewood, Bergamot, Melissa, Jasmine essential oils used to evoke feelings of love, respect, harmony, and peace.

Vishuddhi (Throat) chakra:  located in the Throat. Color is Blue– Blue essential oils include Lavender, Sage, Lemongrass, and Blue Chamomile essential oils. Use of these oils can help remove problems in communication, and to become non- judgmental.

Ajna (Third Eye) chakra:  located on the Forehead between the eyes (also called the Brow Chakra). Color is Indigo. Brow chakra deals with intuition and sixth sense. The use of Rosemary, Lavender, Frankincense, Peppermint, Clary sage, Spruce and Elemi essential oils is especially beneficial to purify our being and keep our emotional self-balanced. If energies are dominant in the third eye, the person is intellectual, intuitive and lives in harmony with their surroundings.

Sahastrar (Crown) chakra: located at the very top of the head. Color is Violet– linked with the Crown chakra which is our connection to the Higher Consciousness. People who attain enlightenment are represented with the halo. This is the ultimate state which we want to attain. Neroli, Frankincense, St. John’s Wort, Angelica and Lavender essential oils are linked with this chakra.

Collectively, our chakras keep us healthy and whole. When we experience “off” times in our lives, it is generally a sign that chakras are misaligned or blocked. Unbalanced chakras can lead to a variety of physical, mental and spiritual ailments, dysfunctions as do each of the vital organs connected to the out-of-balance chakras. We can meditate on different Chakra colors (visualize their color, or light candles of that particular color while sitting quietly) to heal and balance the corresponding chakras. We can also paint or decorate our homes with different color patterns,

By integrating, colors and essential oils in our therapy, we can stimulate the individual vibration frequency of our chakras to heal and balance our energy centers and establish harmony and well-being in our lives. Perhaps the best way to use Color therapy and Aromatherapy in tandem is to choose colors and scents based upon one’s intuition.

Syllable OM (ॐ)

The Syllable OM (ॐ)
A Lovely  Monday Morning to you all!

PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know………I was always intrigued by this simple ‘OM’ (ॐ) syllable that is chanted either independently or before a spiritual recitation and is commonly associated with Indian  religious beliefs and practices. Now that I am heavily involved with Yog Sadhana and Chakra Healing practices, I was searching for the real meaning of the mystical sound and

Brain Frequency During OM Chanting

got perplexed with the depth of this OM syllable, which is beyond the scope of this article. In our Western world, generally OM is considered synonymous with Yoga, but it’s far more complex. OM is the basic sound of the universe that allows us to harmonize with the external forces and with our own nature internally. It attunes us to Cosmic Consciousness and the sacred vibratory patterns that arise from it. So by chanting it, we are acknowledging our connection to nature and all other living beings. It is the first sound from the beginning of time, which encompasses the present and the future, representing the union of mind, body, and spirit. In the chakra system, it is connected to Ajna chakra (the third eye chakra) and the Sahastrar chakra (the crown chakra), which represents intuition, self-knowledge, and divinity.

According to Wikipedia, Om or Aum (ॐ) is a sacred sound and the most sacred, important spiritual symbol[8][9] in Indian religions. It refers to Atman (soul, self within) and Brahman (the highest Universal Principle, the ultimate reality, entirety of the universe, truth, divine, supreme spirit, cosmic principles, knowledge).[10] The syllable Om is also referred to as omkara (ओङ्कार, oṅkāra),  and pranava (प्रणव, praṇava).[15][16], which means to be in control of one’s life force. In The Mandukya Upanishad, text associated with the Vedanta  philosophy, OM connotes the metaphysical concept of Brahman, is the bija mantra  called the pranava (“uttering”). It gives the symbolic meaning of this mantra, “OM! This Imperishable Word is the whole of this visible Universe. Its explanation is as follows: What has become, what is becoming, what will become—verily, all of this is OM. And what is beyond these three states of the world of time—that too, verily, is OM.”

The OM (ॐ) symbol is a combination of curves, a crescent and a dot. Visual form, comes from the states of consciousness that OM represents. OM is pronounced like “AUM” and consists of four syllables: A, U, M, and the silent syllable anusvara. The first syllable is A, pronounced as a prolonged “awe.” The sound starts at the back of our throat and stretched out. We will feel our solar plexus and chest vibrating. The second syllable is U, pronounced as a prolonged “oo,” with the sound gradually rolling forward along our upper palate that gives the vibration in our throat. The third syllable is M, pronounced as a prolonged “mmmm” with our front teeth and lips gently touching feeling the vibration in our mouth. The last syllable is the deep silence of the Infinite, merged from the M (the nasal after sound or vibration at the end of the M sound, which represents a nasal humming). The four phonetic components of AUM represent the Four States of Consciousness:

A-The state of wakefulness, where we experience things externally through our mind and sense organs

UThe dream state, in which we experience our inner self

MThe state of deep sleep

Turya (the “fourth”)-The nasal humming at the end of the M sound, is the transcendental Self beyond the mind.

It also represent the rule of divine energy of Holy Trinity, GOD; Brahma (G-the generator or the creator, i.e. creation), Vishnu (O-the operator or the sustainer, i.e. preservation), and Shiva (D-the destroyer, i.e.liberation).

Now we know that the entire universe is made of energy which is constantly vibrating (vibrational energy). The sound OM, when chanted, vibrates at the frequency of 432 Hz, which is the same vibrational frequency found throughout everything in nature. Interestingly, Researchers have recorded the frequency of sound OM to be exactly the same as the frequency of earth’s rotation around its own axis. Scientists have studied the effects of OM chanting on the brain, of the 2018 study, published in the Asian Journal of Psychiatry, noted that OM chanting is associated with an experience of relaxation, specifically in the autonomic nervous system (which regulates heart rate, blood pressure, metabolism, and other internal functions), and deactivation of limbic brain regions (an area that controls emotion, memories and arousal). Researchers also observed brain activity during the OM chanting period, which was similar to that created by vagus nerve stimulation, used to treat depression and epilepsy. Scientists concluded that chanting OM may have potential in the treatment of major depressive disorder, though more work is still to be done.

Vibrational Healing with Aromatherapy

Vibrational Healing with Aromatherapy
A Lovely  Monday Morning to you all!

PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know…….. Long before modern technology and science, ancient cultures knew that all living things carried a subtle bio-energy with them, called Life force, Prana, or Chi. Now we know that the entire universe is made of  energy that is constantly vibrating (vibrational energy) and is expressed as an electromagnetic vibrational frequency.

Albert Einstein said it best when he said, “Everything is Energy.”

                         Vibrational Healing

Let’s first understand what is Energy in a simple sense? In general terms, energy is tiny particles of matter, called atoms, that consists of protons, neutrons, electrons, and a nucleus at the center. When group of atoms are moved, a vibration occurs. There are also light vibrations and color vibrations. A subtle vibration is different in that it is most frequent and is perceived by feelings or emotions, rather than physically heard or seen, e.g.; our thoughts, food that we consume, songs that we listen, all form a subtle vibration. We pick up on the vibrational energy when we meet people and vice-versa. We all have experienced that sometimes when we walk into an empty room or a room full of people and immediately get a good or bad vibe or when we meet someone, we get this gut feeling even before they open their mouth to speak.

We have to learn how to use, how to sense, how to pick up on vibrational energy to our advantage and to manifest our best life? We know, similar energies attract one another, e.g.; positive people hang out together, and complainers, haters, negative people attract people with the same energy patterns. We as humans have the power to be mindful and to choose as to who are we surrounding ourselves with, do we have high-vibrating thoughts of love, peace, happiness, laughter, gratitude, sharing, and compassion, then we will be attracting similar energies to our benefit.

Aromatherapy promotes health of body, peacefulness of mind, getting rid of the negative emotions, by working in conjunction with the olfactory system, helps a person get in touch with their true selves. Since the human body is really energy it makes sense to use energy based products, like Essential oils that are in alignment with us so as to support our body and mind based on vibration healing method. Vibrational Healing or Vibrational Medicine is a way of bringing all things back to balance and to its natural vibration state by using, Vibration of  the natural energies of  the environment, e.g.; Aromatherapy, Sound therapy, Acupuncture, Crystals, and EFT (Emotional freedom technique or tapping).

“Clinical research shows that essential oils have the highest frequency of any natural substance known to man, creating an environment in which disease, bacteria, virus, fungus, etc., cannot live. I believe that the chemistry and frequencies of essential oils have the ability to help man maintain the optimal frequency to the extent that disease cannot exist.” Gary Young of Young Living Essential Oils

According to one of the most beneficial researchers of vibrational frequency, Bruce Tainio, a healthy human body has a frequency of 62-72 MHz, it drops to 57-60 MHz if have a cold or flu, cancer may appear at 42 MHz and the death process begins at 25 MHz, Negative thoughts -12, Positive thoughts +10, Praying +15, Smoking -23.

Similarly, processed food such as a hamburger or canned food is said to have close to zero vibration, while some living greens may have a frequency of 70 MHz.

“Essential oils all emit a spectrum of frequencies that come from the bonds between elements comprising the molecules of their compounds. Each molecule is like a tiny stringed instrument where the bonds between the atoms of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen act as strings of different pitches, just as a guitar or a harp has several strings of different pitches each with harmonics and overtones of their own.” Dr David Stewart

According to researchers in Washington using Tainio Technology,  the vibrational frequency

                       Vibrational Healing

of pure essential oils are the highest of any measured natural substance. Thus, it stands to reason that through the inhalation and topical application of pure essential oils, we can raise the vibratory quality of an individual and may reverse the disease process. Rose essential oil vibrates at a rate of 320 MHz. The highest measured frequency of any essential oil, Rose emanates love, purity, and wholeness, connecting mind, body, and spirit. It is not surprising that there is no greater power in the Universe than love. The feeling of love is the highest frequency  any person is able to emit.

For example, here are the average frequencies of some of the therapeutic grade essential oils that have been measured:

Fondness of LOVE

Fondness of LOVE
A Lovely Memorial Day Monday Morning to you all!

LET US JOIN TO REMEMBER AND HONOR OUR HEROES FOR THEIR ULTIMATE SACRIFICE!

PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know…….. LOVE has been a favoured topic of philosophers, poets, writers, and scientists for generations. Generally, when we talk or hear the word love, we always think of romance, passion, attraction, infatuation, and sensuality from the outer sense, but it goes far beyond that. In Internal Power-Seven Doorways to Self Discovery, by Harold W. Becker, it’s mentioned, that falling in love with ourselves, forgiving, and accepting ourselves for all our beliefs, mistakes, and recognizing our self-worth, is the foremost form of love.

             Fondness of LOVE

If we don’t learn first to love ourselves, then we can’t extend our love to others. Love and fear are two profound emotions that we experience as humans. Love transcends everything, so celebrate love with everyone, even with inert objects and our beautiful mother nature for her limitless endurance for our constant abuse. From the scientific point of view, love is a powerful and permanent neurological condition, which can’t be controlled.

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”   Buddha

Love is a force of nature and it’s not easy to define. Love feel is endless. It can be for your spouse, for your parents, for your children, for your siblings, for your neighbours, for your friends, for your lover, for your pets, for your community, for your country, for God and so on so forth. Love doesn’t need to be perfect, only needs to be true. Love can’t be restrained, manipulated, punished, rewarded, envied, it is inherently compassionate, humble, patient, forgiving, selfless, unconditional, perseveres, respectful, nurturing, and can only be felt. Though, often the person you feel the closest to your heart, shatters your dreams, your divine feelings to pieces beyond a repair. That’s the time, you have to show your resilience and bounce back with a new vigour.

“Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind.”

Rest to Revitalize

Rest to Revitalize
A Lovely Monday Morning to you all!

PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know………..Our mind and body function interdependently as a whole. It is important to realize the role of rest in our life. We can’t achieve physical wellness, if other parts of our life is stressed and under unrest mode. Generally, our overall attitude is to try to minimize rest as much as possible to

Rest to Revitalize

accomplish more, thinking we are being more productive and efficient, without realizing we are damaging our physical, mental, and spiritual health causing more challenges. We are so much attached to our worldly affairs that we forget to find the true meaning of life in our surroundings, in the serenity of our mother nature, and always feel ‘Short of Time’. It is so ironic, that in this so called modern age, we are constantly making inventions to save time for every activity, but in every conversation, we hear repeatedly, ‘I don’t have time to spare or not even to die’.

“If you relax your mind, it can begin working for you.” – Bryant McGill

We should have a set of daily routine to stay organized and function efficiently, but be flexible and adaptable. If one day things don’t get done as per schedule, it should not be the matter of stress and it won’t be the end of the world. We just have to break lose our negative destructive pattern of daily living and rewire our subconscious mind to restructure our personal excellence. We do have to set realistic goals to avoid stress, anxiety, and feeling of failure. We should not consider ourselves, ‘Do it all Individual’, that’s when we end up falling flat on our face frustrated and stressed out. So, it’s always a good practice to seek help from others when desired and be willing to help others in need.

Generally, when we are talking about rest, we think only about sleep, but rest is more than just

sleep. Yes, sleep is very crucial for the normal function of our body, but rest includes self-care, relaxation, entertainment, enjoying a hobby, doing restful activities, and power down our minds for a while, (Please refer to my blog of May 12, 2018, Self-care with Essential Oils). In Ayurveda and TCM, it’s believed that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. A quality rest helps to restore our inner peace, our Qi flows and our spirit is content, which makes our entire internal environment balanced and in harmony.

Aromatherapy using Essential Oils is good way to support the body’s own healing system, thus assist the natural abilities of our body to rest and recover from stress and illness. Coping with Current Situation

Coping with Current Situation
A Lovely Monday Morning to you all!

PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know……..times are hard, stressful, confusing, following the global outbreak of Corona virus, and we are still adapting to the new normal. We face changes constantly in our lives, only we have to learn how to cope with it effectively without damaging our physical, mental, and spiritual health.

We know from constant exposure to news broadcasting, digital media, and the newspaper, many countries went into lockdown, placing restrictions on the movement of people and barring international visitors, to impede the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 (the virus causing COVID-19) virus and prevent community transmission. Unfortunately, even with strict lock downs and social distancing measures, countries across the world are struggling to contain the spread of the novel Corona virus. It has already resulted in Confirmed 4.1M (+61,554), Recovered 1.4M, and Deaths 282K (+8,499), across the globe in the absence of treatments, vaccines, or the diagnostics, and continues to increase by the day. Initially, the virus was thought to spread only when we came in contact with the infected person, but the recent scientific research/studies have revealed the spread even by the silent asymptomatic carriers. This Corona pandemic is not only affecting our health, but has brought the global economy to an unprecedented halt.  Unemployment is at the rise and some experts are comparing the current crisis with the Great Depression of the 1930s.

We have to try to keep abreast with the ever changing situation and have to keep thinking, improvising the best case scenario to ride out of this storm. It’s not easy to feel normal in times of uncertainty and avoid being stressed. Here, we should not forget about the emotional state of our young and little ones. We have to be mindful towards them and help them to manage difficult emotions and inspire kindness toward others. This social distancing and isolation could cause tension, anxiety, physical abuse, and long term mental health condition. Researchers and nutritional psychiatry suggest, that with the intervention of balanced nutritional diet, mental wellness could be improved.

It’s amazing that the entire world is facing the same crisis, not only a few of us, so to bring happiness in crisis, we all have to:

  • Emit positive vibrations of love, compassion, gratitude, blessings, cooperation for the entire human kind, not the vibrations of fear and anxiety. It will change our feelings and would be beneficial to all of us. We all have heard, thoughts become our reality and effects our health, our family, our community, our state, our country, and pretty soon becomes the global vibration and in turn would heal the planet.
  • Give gratitude to the Almighty for giving us yet another new day in our lives. Let us show our gratitude towards our family and the people who are instrumental (Researchers, Scientists, Doctors, Para-Medical staffs, Police force, and the Administration) in keeping us safe.
  • Not be dependent on the situation and let it spoil our happiness.
  • Give our gratitude for the food, water we are having. Let us continue cooking and eating home cooked meal which is a healthy life style habit, filled with high energy, and definitely filled with love and compassion.
  • Be thankful to the Digital technology for providing the tools for efficient remote instructions, working, learning-teaching environment, exercising, entertainment, during this corona virus pandemic.

Per WHO (World Health Organization) website, Corona is known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) and SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). The most recently discovered Corona virus causes Corona virus disease COVID-19. So, practicing hand and respiratory hygiene is important at all times and is the best way to protect others and yourself. Besides social distancing, there are ways to take care of our health in naturalistic, holistic manner:

Drink lots of water (possibly lukewarm, with lemon and honey) to stay hydrated, avoid alcoholic beverages

Irrigate sinuses using a Neti-Pot with saline nasal water

Direct inhalation of Essential oils: Essential oils have been used for centuries as a natural way to support emotional and physical health due to their individual therapeutic properties. Can inhale the aromatic molecules right from the bottle of sinus relieving essential oils (Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Lavender, Tea tree), or add 2-3 drops of oils to a handkerchief, cotton ball, or inhaler tube, and breathe in as needed.

Steam Inhalation: is a very effective way to relieve stuffy nose and could help with upper respiratory tract infection. Boil 2-3 cups tap water and pour into a heat-proof bowl. Add 4-6 drops of essential oils (2 drops each of Eucalyptus, Tea Tree and 1 drop Peppermint Essential Oils) and stir slowly. Cover the back of your head with a towel, carefully lean over the bowl, and breathe in the steam through your nose and mouth as long as the steam is rising (for 2-4 minutes). Keep your eyes closed to prevent eye irritation. Repeat this once every other day for 10-15 days or as needed. (Instead of essential oils, can also use herbs: like 1 teaspoons of oregano and 1 teaspoons of basil).

Importance of Food

Importance of Food
A Lovely Monday Morning to you all!

PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGINE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know………. Food is much more than providing nutrition to our body. Food is a part of our upbringing. Food is a part of our culture. Food is what we are. Food is how we interact and negotiate with

              Healthy Food Pyramid

others, many important issues are being resolved during business luncheon and dinner meetings, in all the celebrations (any type of festival, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and even in funerals), food remains the main focus. All over the world from a village to modern cities, sharing food and feeding guests, is a sense of sharing friendship and showing gratitude.

Food is a basic necessity for the energy that our body requires to adequately perform the daily metabolic, hormonal, mental, physical, chemical functions. At the same time, our habit of eating unhealthy food is the culprit and intricately associated with some of the chronic diseases; cancer, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and low immunity. It’s pretty difficult to change our eating   habits that is ingrained within us from our childhood, though it could be accomplished with practice and effort. It’s shocking that obesity rate among children (as well as in adults too) is growing all over the world and one of the key factor, the increasing trend of Junk Food, that contains sugar, salt, fats, together with bad food habits. In addition, with the increasing onset of food delivery apps, etc., people now like having junk food more as it’s easier than cooking your own meal and is some what tastier too.

Now, what is good food and what is bad food (Please consult a trained licensed food nutritionist for your diet evaluation)? It’s very easy to get overwhelmed with all types of advertised diets (Paleo diet, Mediterranean diet, Atkins diet, Low GI diet, Japanese diet, etc., etc.) and be confused in finding the adequate one for your body type. It could become restrictive as to the portion size, quality, caloric intake, etc. The terms ‘food’ and ‘nutrition’ are sometimes used synonymously, which is not right. There are mainly two categories (I am not categorizing into; dairy, poultry, fish, fruits, grains, etc.)of food:

Vegetarian food: these include all plant based food; fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products; milk, butter, yogurt, cheese.

Non-Vegetarian food: these include all meat and meat products; chicken, turkey, fish, squid lamb, goat, pig, cow, etc.

Food is a composite mixture of five basic ingredients and water that we consume every day to stay healthy, active and productive.

Protein

Carbohydrate

Fat

Vitamins

Minerals and

Water

Protein: builds, maintains and repairs the body’s muscle, blood, skin, hair, bones and other tissues, organs in the body. Eg: Meat, eggs, dairy and fish, nuts, seeds (Pumpkin, Sunflower).

Carbohydrate: is main source of energy to the body. Carbohydrates can be classified into two kinds; starches and sugars. The common starch rich food include rice, maize, wheat and potatoes while food rich in sugars include fruits, honey, sugar, sweets, candies, chocolate bars, and sweet drinks.

Fat: this is also known as the body’s secondary source of energy. Fats are stored in the human body for energy and excess fat is more difficult to burn. It helps people survive through cold weather and contains more calories per gram than any other nutrient. Food rich in fats are oils, ghee, butter, lard, milk, cheese and some meat.

Vitamins and Minerals: sometimes called micronutrients, as only tiny amounts is needed by human body, but an essential organic compound required for good health. Good sources of vitamins are fruits, vegetables, cereals, milk and eggs. Minerals are needed for the maintenance of proper functions in the body like the transport of oxygen throughout the body, stimulating growth, normalizing the nervous system, build bones (Calcium), Blood (Iron) etc. Minerals can be found from a variety of food items such as, meat, cereals, bread, fish, milk and dairy products.

Water: It is popularly known as the”elixir of life”. The human body comprises of 55-78 % of water. It is required for the essential functioning of the various important parts of the human body.

We should try to change our attitude and thought process towards eating healthy. We should consume more plant based food, portion control, give priority and respect to our food i.e. take out time to properly sit and eat, give our gratitude to the Almighty to be graced with food. Besides, healthy food, which contains all the necessary ingredients, does not only impact our immunity, our physical health, but mental health also and reduce the chances of diseases. It keeps us away from the long-term illnesses that could create stress, anxiety, insomnia, and even relationship problems. In addition, healthy food helps us to save money. It is much cheaper to prepare our own desired dishes from our own purchased ingredients than ordering junk food from outside. Plus the love and care that goes into the preparation of healthy food with our own hands, is incomparable.

With the global Corona virus pandemic, I can’t end the article without mentioning about our immunity. We have to strengthen our immune system (Lymphatic System), that transport lymphatic fluid, containing infection-fighting white blood cells (Lymphocytes, which produce antibodies to kill the foreign bodies, microorganisms and stop infections from spreading) throughout the body. The tonsils, adenoids, spleen, and thymus are all part of the lymphatic system. To help the flow of lymphatic fluid all over the body, we have to keep moving using those Suksham Kriyas (micro exercises), that I mentioned in my last week’s (Mon., Apr. 27, 2020) blog and eat mindfully, healthy food to boost our immunity.

Few Suggestions for Building Healthy Habits:

In the morning, after waking up, can drink a full glass of lukewarm water with 1 teaspoon honey,  1/2 lemon, or a glass of fresh vegetable juice.

For Breakfast, can have a banana or a cup of seasonal fresh fruits, some soaked almonds or any raw nuts-seeds, 1 cup low fat milk or black tea or herbal tea, 1-2 eggs, 2 slices of whole grain bread with a little butter, sprouts (Wheat, Mung beans, Alfalfa seeds and Soya beans, Red, Black or Bhite Chickpeas  make excellent sprouts)

Body the Healing Machine

Do you know……..We all were constantly complaining that life is very challenging. No one had time to spare for their family, and especially on themselves. Now, with the global outbreak of Corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic, our life has temporarily changed. I can’t comment if it’s for good or bad, but our daily lifestyles have been impacted. Nature has provided us with the opportunity to heal our over active, heavily worked up body, mind, spirit with our inbuilt self-healing trait and establish harmony with our environment. This is the time to

                  Body the Healing Machine

explore our hidden potentials of cooking, sewing, painting, art-craft, writing, etc., to name a few. Grand Master Lu (Lu Sheng-Yen, born 27 June 1945, is the founder and spiritual leader of the True Buddha School with teachings from Buddhism and Taoism) reminds us that every event provides opportunities to learn and that health is a dynamic part of life. “Life is magic. Health is dynamic. It is true we need a strong immune system, but it is not the whole truth. We also need to see what the immune system represents?  Simply put, it is the result of your body, mind, and Spirit working as one.”

Our body is not made to experience misery, disease, or sickness. Our cells continually look for health, balance and harmony with our surroundings. We have microcosm of macrcosm within us i.e.  human beings, are viewed as an epitome or miniature of the universe. Whatever exists in the nature exists within us to help us self- heal. When we break that natural law and stop vibrating at the same frequency, then we start attracting negative energies and victimize our body to different diseases.

Unlike in the Western traditions, Ayurveda (Ayu=long life and veda=knowledge, which means in Sanskrit, ‘knowledge of life’, originated in India more than 5,000 years ago from the ancient Vedic culture and is often called the “Mother of All Healing”), places great emphasis on individual body’s physical constitution, emotional nature, spiritual outlook, and balance of natural rhythms and cycles. Similarly, TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine, teaches how to live a life of balance, wellness, and harmony. it’s rooted in unchanging natural law, which has its source beyond time). TCM believes that at birth we are born with the ability, Qi or energy to heal ourselves in a smooth, efficient, and productive way.

Modern quantum science as well as the Ayurveda and TCM, say that everything is made up of energy. We can use the vibrational frequency of nature and our internal frequency to heal and balance our bodies and emotions. According to Ayurveda and TCM, universe is composed of 5 Elements: Ether, Air, Fire, Water, Earth, and they include our internal organs. Ayurveda believes, these five elements combine to make three Doshas, that controls all the function of our mind and body:

Vata(Air and Ether) –Fall and Early Winter, Later life

Pitta(Water and Fire) –Summer, Adolesent to Middle age

Kapha(Water and Earth) –Late winter and Early Spring, Birth to Puberty

This Five Element Framework offers a diagnostic framework to recognize where imbalances in our body, mind, emotions, and spirit lie. Just as everyone has a unique fingerprint, each person has a particular pattern of energy, an individual combination of physical, mental and emotional characteristics which identifies them.

We become what we think about. If we are not feeling good, then we don’t like ourselves. We carry our thoughts not only in our mind, rather in our entire body. It’s good to have some stress, but stress beyond our tolerance could create all kinds of problem in our day to day life. When stressful events happen, distress signals to brain, that alerts endocrine system which starts producing cortisol and adrenaline or epinephrine, stress hormones. As a result, our immunity goes down. We all have ability of resiliency to bounce back from stressful events, adversities and if not, this skill can be learnt with compassionate support through self-awareness and self-care. Most of us are unaware of our full potential, hidden skills, that we can acquire by self-programming through:

  • Self- hypnosis (Visualizing body is healing itself, becoming whole and functional)
  • Self introspect
  • How to be your ideal self
  • Guided imagery
  • Relaxation, Yoga,
  • Meditation to calm mind and connect to innate wisdom.
  • Give thanks and feel gratitude in the body
  • Appropriate Sleep
  • Good healthy diet to nourish the digestive system and boost the immune system
  • Find a healthy environment and get out of a toxic environment
  • Find healthy relationship, open the door to experience peace, love, and healing you deserve
  • Letting go of worries, fears and heaviness that weigh us down and make room for the new space to grow, to learn, to enjoy.

Inner peace is what natural healing looks like. When we’re at peace, our Qi flows and our spirit is content, that makes our entire internal environment balanced and in harmony. Ultimately, we feel healthy inside-out. In Ayurveda and TCM, they don’t treat the individual disease, but treat the person as a whole. It’s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Its main goal is to promote good health, not fight disease.

Aromatherapy using Essential Oils is good way to support the body’s own healing system. Essential Oils are natural, volatile, concentrated, liquid plant extracts with different therapeutic properties and have been used since ancient times to cure different ailments. Essential oils have a very small molecular size and are easily absorbed by the skin. Following essential oils could be used for self-healing; Lavender, Peppermint, Tea tree, Eucalyptus, Roman Chamomile, Rosemary, Frankincense, Citrus oils, Geranium, Rose, Sandalwood

Grounding-Relaxing Spray:

2 oz. distilled water

15 drops lavender Essential Oil

10 drops grapefruit Essential Oil

5 drops geranium Essential Oil

1 tsp alcohol (vodka)

Add oils to a glass spray bottle, close, label, mix and spray in the room or on linen, use as desired. Mix well before each use.

Refreshing Ginger-Mint Tea

6-8 Fresh Mint Leaves (provides cooling effect in throat) or 1 Peppermint tea bag

4 Slices of fresh Ginger (warms and supports stomach functions) or 2 Ginger tea bags

In a pan, bring 4 cups of water to boil with fresh ginger slices, simmer for 5 minutes, turn off the flame, add peppermint leaves, cover  and let steep for 5 minutes, strain, drink hot or warm throughout the day. Can add honey (nourish and moisturize lungs and lemon (optional).

For an emergency health condition seeking an immediate medical intervention by conventional medicine is the best choice.
