Essential Oils for Restoring Balance in Spring

Essential Oils for Restoring Balance in Spring
A Lovely Monday Morning to You All!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS. FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING

Spring season is here now. We all survived long nights, frigid temperatures, drying indoor heat, cold-flu, and fading tan lines. Spring is the time for new growth, new beginning, fresh potential, and spring cleaning. It is ‘Kapha’ time of the year.

Spring

According to Ayurveda (Ayu=life, Veda=knowledge, is a comprehensive system of healing), universe is composed of 5 Elements:

Ether, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth

These five elements combine to make three Doshas, that controls all the function of our mind and body:

Vata(Air and Ether) –Fall-Early Winter, Later life

Pitta(Water and Fire) –Summer, Adolesent-Middle age

          Kapha(Water and Earth) –Late winter-Early Spring,    Birth-Puberty

Three Doshas

Kapha is comprised of water and earth element. According to Ayurveda this dosha is slow, moist, cool, heavy, smooth and responsible for the stability, lubrication, and support of our physical body. Characters of a Kapha personality; have big eyes, smooth, dense skin, have exceptional endurance, robust, and strong, love to eat, enjoy stable partnership and love children, a loyal friend, warm, compassionate, have patience, easy going. Out of balance Kapha people could be lethargic, have food cravings, low metabolism, can gain weight easily, feeling of sadness, depression, congestion. To keep Kapha balanced, they should eat dry, warming, pungent, bitter flavored food that has stimulating properties, and stay away from sweet, sour, salty, oily foods, exercise daily, follow a yoga routine, keep a gratitude journal, go on outing with friends.

Together with consuming balanced healthy diet, exercising, Aromatherapy (an alternative healthcare modality) is another good and easy way of restoring balance of heavy, cold and wet nature of excess Kapha dosha and to achieve abundant health. Aromatherapy is a science and art of using Essential oils for our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Essential oils are natural, concentrated, volatile, liquid aromatic extract with individual therapeutic properties from different parts of plants and have been used since centuries in beauty products and to cure various ailments. Warm, spicy, and invigorating aromas are generally the most balancing for Kapha dosha. With proper dilution, essential oils can be used to massage, in bath, in diffuser, or can be inhaled directly. Some of these Essential Oils include:

Bergamot, Orange, Ylang ylang, Cardamom, Cedar, Cinnamon, Ginger, Black Pepper, Clove, Frankincense, Rose, Marjoram, Eucalyptus, TeaTree, ClarySage and Tulsi

Good Carrier oils to make dilution: Mustard seed, Almond, and Grape seed

Aromatic All-purpose Daily Cleanser:

Add 18 drops each of Lemon grass and Tea Tree Essential Oil to 4oz glass spray bottle, top with 3 oz distilled water and 1oz white vinegar, close, label, mix well. Spray countertops, leave for 2-5 minutes, wipe clean with a paper towel or a rag to naturally disinfect leaving behind pleasant fragrance.

Refreshing Spring Room Spray:

Add 24 drops Sweet Orange essential oil in a 4oz glass spray bottle, top with 1oz Lavender Hydrosol or Rose water and 3 oz distilled water, close, label, mix well. Spray in the room as desired.

The Incredible Number 7

The Incredible Number 7
A Lovely Morning to You All!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING

Do you know………During my yoga and meditation sessions, number 7 is mentioned often either for repetition of a particular sequence or chanting of some mantra. Out of my curiosity, I started searching and was astounded with the wealth of information. Here, I am sharing with you some of the significance of number 7 without going into details.

     Lucky Number 7

7 is the number of completeness and perfection both physical as well as spiritual. The number 7 is tied directly to God’s creation of all things and much more prevalent in nature than most of us realize; There are 7 oceans, 7 continents, 7 vertebrae in the neck, 7 basic chakras in our body, 7 layers of skin (2 outer and 5 inner), ocean waves roll in sevens, 7 colors in rainbow, music has 7 notes, there are 7 directions, the Jewish Menorah has 7 candles, the earth was created in 7 days (including a day of rest, hence 7 days in a week), a cube has 7 dimensions (including the inside), there are 7 deadly sins, 7 virtues, 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit, 7 classical planets, 7 hills in Istanbul, Rome and Jerusalem, 7 wonders of the ancient world. The number 7 is also important in Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, and Judaism. The number 7 is also featured in the Book of Revelation (7 churches, 7 angels, 7 seals, 7 trumpets, and 7 stars). The Koran speaks of 7 heavens and Muslim pilgrims walk around the Kaaba in Mecca 7 times. In Hinduism there are 7 higher worlds and 7 underworlds, 7 sages or Saptarishi, 7 stars in a constellation called Saptharishi Mandalam (Great Bear constellation, clearly visible from earth in the northern direction and it looks like a kite in the space), 7 promises, or Saptapadi, and 7 circumambulations around a fire at Hindu weddings, 7 octets or Saptak Swaras in Indian Music as the basis for Ragas compositions. In Buddhism 7 is the number of ascent, and Buddha is said to have walked this number of steps at his birth.

In medieval education, students pursued a total of seven subjects (the trivium -grammar, rhetoric, logic and the quadrivium – music, arithmetic, geometry, astronomy), collectively known as the liberal arts. In modern times, 7 is the number of games in the playoffs for NHL, MLB and NBA. There is an obvious 7-year economics crash cycle for example starting from 1966, then 1973, then 1980, then 1987, then 1994, then 2001, so on and so forth. 7 not only represents the jackpot on slot machines, but it is also the basis for many myths and folklore. In 1956, George Miller of Harvard University wrote that most people can retain roughly seven items of information in their short term memory. That is why phone numbers in the U.S. and many other countries tend to have 7 digits in a phone number after the area code. 7 is a prime number. Prime numbers are those that can only be divided by themselves and by the number 1 and 7 is considered by some to be the most ‘prime’ number within the first 10 numbers as it cannot be multiplied within the group, making it a kind of optimal-prime. It is also symbolic of togetherness and, as a result, is seen as a good omen in relationships.

It is this combination of cultural, historical, religious, numerical, and psychological factors that contribute to the allure of the number 7. If we do proper research, we will find many more significance of number 7.

Aromatherapy for Spring Allergy

Aromatherapy for Spring Allergy
A Lovely Memorial Day Monday Morning to You All!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING

Do you know………. We are amidst Spring season now and the mother nature is bursting with renewed energy everywhere. Spring is the time for new growth, new beginning, fresh potential, and spring cleaning. Day light is getting longer, grass is greener, flowers are blooming, and the early morning melodious chirping of birds.

                        Spring Allergy

Unfortunately, with beautiful warm weather and long sunny days of Spring comes the allergy season, because of the release of pollen into the atmosphere. Each year, millions of Americans suffer from this seasonal allergy, commonly known as Hay Fever. When an allergic person breathes in pollen, their immune system releases antibodies that attack pollen as foreign bodies and releases histamines into the blood. This triggers the allergic symptoms of: Runny nose, Itchy and Watery eyes, Sneezing & Coughing, Post Nasal Drip, Scratchy or sore throat, Irritation or infection in the ears, and Wheezing. Allergy symptoms could be relieved by following these natural approaches:

Aromatherapy: an alternative-holistic healthcare modality, is the art and science of therapeutically using Essential oils to alleviate variety of ailments. Essential Oils are pure, natural extract of different parts of plant with individual aroma and chemical properties. Recommended Essential Oils:

  • Peppermint: Peppermint essential oil is highly versatile. It can help to clear the airways and relieve headache, boost energy on a sluggish, hazy day.
  • Lavender: Lavender is calming, cleansing and anti-inflammatory. In addition to reducing swelling in the airways, lavender’s relaxing scent eases nerves and can be beneficial for headaches.
  • Eucalyptus: is analgesic, anti-inflammatory, good for cold cough
  • Roman chamomile: is very relaxing and eases inflammation. But, if a person has ragweed allergy, do not use this oil and don’t drink chamomile tea as it can make symptoms worse.
  • Frankincense: is anti-inflammatory, grounding, skin friendly, relaxing, nervine
  • Lemon: is cleansing and soothes respiratory inflammation, can reduce stuffiness, uplifting and calming.

Essential oil Blend for Allergy relief:

                          Use of Neti Pot

5 drs Lavender Essential Oil

5 drs Lemon Essential Oil

5 drs Peppermint Essential Oil

5 drs Eucalyptus Essential Oil

10ml Jojoba Carrier Oil

Add these Essential Oils in a 10ml dark colored glass euro bottle and top with Jojoba carrier oil. Close, label, and mix well before use.

Ways to use the blend:

  • Rub 1 – 2 drops of the essential oil blend into the palms of hands, bring over nose and take 4 – 6 deep breaths or add 4 – 6 drops on a cotton ball in a zip lock bag to carry along and inhaling as needed.
  • Rub few drops onto feet, forehead, or chest (best done at night, so to keep inhaling aroma while asleep).
  • Diffuse 4 – 6 drops of the blend without carrier oil, in an aromatherapy diffuser throughout the day or night to ease allergic discomforts.

Nasal Irrigation: through a Neti pot(that looks like a small teapot) or a squeeze bottle with a combination of warm or room temperature distilled/sterile water, ¼ tsp salt, and ¼ tsp baking soda that will help to clear mucus and open sinus passages.

Intro to Covid-19

Intro to Covid-19
A Lovely Monday Morning to you all!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING

Do you know……In the wake of recent global development and the fatal impact of Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic, I thought of looking up for the simple description of Corona Virus and found this:

                     Coronavirus Image

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by a new coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. Because it is a new virus, scientists around the world are working tirelessly to learn, find, and develop treatments for COVID-19. Coronaviruses are so named because they possess spiked surface proteins, which give the virus surface a crown/corona appearance. Coronaviruses are enveloped viruses (so is Influenza virus), which means they are covered by a membrane of cellular matter taken from their host cell and have single stranded RNA. Bats are common reservoirs of coronaviruses and mostly pass through an intermediate carrier species before infecting humans. On February 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced an official name for this disease, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), where ‘CO’ stands for ‘corona,’ ‘VI’ for ‘virus,’ and ‘D’ for disease. Formerly, this disease was referred to as “2019 novel coronavirus” or “2019-nCoV.”

Researchers found there are seven known coronaviruses that infect humans. Of which four are responsible for about 15% of common colds that affect the upper respiratory tract and cause symptoms like, sore throat or runny nose. The other three coronaviruses have caused major human disease: SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2 virus or “the novel coronavirus” as it’s commonly called. These three affect the lower respiratory tract, the lungs, unclear about affecting the upper respiratory tract. SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV were the cause of two major outbreaks in the last two decades in South East Asia and the Middle East. (SARS stands for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, while MERS is Middle Eastern Respiratory System). SARS-CoV-2 virus is a beta coronavirus, like MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV. SARS-CoV was first identified in the Guangdong province of China in 2002, and it spread to more than 30 countries. In the 2002/2003 outbreak, SARS-CoV had about a 10% fatality rate. The intermediate source was civet cats sold in a live meat market, which had been infected by horseshoe bats acting as SARS-CoV reservoirs. SARS-CoV (the 2002/2003 virus) was successfully contained through adequate personal protective equipment for health workers, screening for abnormalities in white blood cell count, and performing chest images. Dr. A. Vaishampayan, an eminent scientist, and a noted scholar, of the prestigious university of India, Banaras Hindu University, compiled this figure from different scientific journals for public information. With his permission, I am sharing this diagram with you.

COVID-19 cases were infected initially via contact with a wet market in Wuhan, China, in November and December 2019, and However, the exact source of this virus has not been identified. COVID-19 fatality rate is impossible to accurately determine as the focus currently is on very ill patients not people who are infected with mild symptoms but are not tested. Although, most people with COVID-19 have mild symptoms include fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, while some could be asymptomatic carrier of this disease. More severe cases can have lymphopenia (abnormally low level of lymphocytes in the blood) and chest imaging that looks like pneumonia. In critical cases, patients may progress rapidly to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), septic shock, metabolic acidosis, coagulation dysfunction, and even death. Some groups, including older adults and people with certain underlying health conditions (like heart disease or respiratory disease, etc.), are at increased risk of severe illness. Studies show, once the virus infects the respiratory system, the SARS-CoV-2 spike proteins bind host cell ACE2 receptors, just like SARS-CoV, that enters the host cell inside an endosome, much like influenza. People are more likely to experience severe symptoms and have a higher risk of being fatal.

Testing: Rapid antigen tests (sometimes known as a rapid diagnostic test – RDT) detect viral proteins (antigens). Samples are collected from the nose and/or throat with a swab. These tests are cheaper than PCR (polymerase chain reaction or molecular photocopying) and will offer results more quickly, although they are generally less accurate. These tests perform best when there is more virus circulating in the community and when sampled from an individual during the time they are most infectious. Both isolation and quarantine are methods of preventing the spread of COVID-19 together with using mask and maintaining adequate social distance.

Quarantine means that anyone who was in contact of someone infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19, whether the infected person has symptoms or not, remain separated from others in a designated facility or at home. For COVID-19, this means staying in the facility or at home for 14 days.

Isolation means being separated from other people, ideally in a medical facility where you can receive clinical care, or if you are not in a high-risk group of developing severe disease, isolation can take place at home. If you have symptoms, you should remain in isolation for at least 10 days plus an additional 3 days without symptoms. If you are infected and do not develop symptoms, you should remain in isolation for 10 days from the time you test positive.

For now, the good news is that the United States has two Covid-19 vaccines that have been shown to be highly effective at preventing symptomatic Covid-19 infection, measured starting from seven days after the second dose was administered.

Attracting Positivity in Life

Attracting Positivity in Life
A Lovely Monday Morning to you all!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know……..Love is the highest frequency that human being can emit and is the greatest power known to the mankind. Many religions have flourished and perished claiming the true path to love.

                        Attracting Positivity

To find a perfect selfless eternal love, we have to seek love with the creator of the universe. In present world crises of Covid-19 and many other disturbances, we can create and spread the real feeling of love with positive thinking if we choose to, because the potential lies within us. Feeling is desire, desire is love, and love generates positive vibration. Harold W. Becker in his book, ‘Unconditional Love – An Unlimited Way of Being’, developed unconventional, contemporary definition for unconditional love, “Life through unconditional love, is a wondrous adventure that excites the very core of our being and lights our path with delight.”

Have you ever experienced that sometimes what you think or want to have, it happens suddenly and you wonder how incredible it is? Lately, every couple of months to retrain my thought process, I have been trying to listen to the audio of ‘The Secret’, by Rhonda Byrne, and every time I am intrigued with the law of attraction. She explains the law that governs our lives and how to create intentionally and effortlessly a joyful life. We put our thoughts into action through the law of attraction upon which the entire creation depends. Studies revealed that we process approximately sixty thousands thoughts per day which is driven by our feelings and our emotions. We know, like attracts like, so if we are unhappy about something; our health, or bad relation, or strenuous job, or circumstantial upheaval, etc. and think about it all the time, then it seems to get worst with every passing day. Instead of letting bad, negative thoughts ruin our lives, why don’t we spend our valuable time in attracting positive, happy thoughts to heal from chronic pain, to manifest happiness, to establish love, peace, and harmony. Therefore, it’s essential that we don’t let our critical inner voice slip into our thoughts without our knowledge and mess up our thinking patterns.

Aroma of Essential oils has the power to deviate us from our usual thought pattern and help dispel negativity. Essential Oils are natural, volatile, concentrated, liquid plant extracts with individual therapeutic properties and have been used since ancient times to cure different ailments. A sense of smell is one of the five senses and a powerful connector between people and the world around them. Suggested oils that are uplifting and help people feel happy include;

                            Essential Oils

Citrus scents: Bergamot, Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit, and Tangerine

Minty scents: Peppermint, Spearmint and Pennyroyal

Neroli (helps with anxiety and panic), Roman and German Chamomiles, Helichrysum (helps with the feelings of frustration, bitterness and anger), Spikenard, Lavender and Rose (help with overall feelings of no self-worth), Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Rosemary, Patchouli, Sweet Marjoram, Frankincense, Myrrh, Vetiver, Clary Sage, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Hyssop, Pine needle, Tea Tree, Ginger, Geranium, Juniper berry, Thyme help to cultivate positivity.

Mood Lifting Positive Thinking Diffuser Blend:

2 drops Geranium Essential Oil

2 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil

Add these oils to your diffuser as desired to enjoy the calming, soothing aroma for positive effect.

Rewire Brain with Aromatherapy

Rewire Brain with Aromatherapy
A Lovely  Labor Day Monday Morning to you all!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know…………..As we age, we fear for cognitive decline. This could be a matter of stress and depression. Of course, now a days stress reduction seems to be a cure-all. To a certain extent it is true, but not applicable

                         Brain Plasticity

everywhere. According to Molly Wagster, a neuroscientist at the National Institute on Aging, almost all of us will experience some age-related decline in memory and learning. Research has shown that in fact the brain never stops changing through learning and Plasticity is the capacity of the brain to change with learning. Neuroplasticity or brain plasticity refers to the brain’s ability to change throughout life. To facilitate the strengthening of change in our brains, we have to constantly train it to develop new positive skills and memory. To slow  mental aging for harnessing brain potential to the fullest, keeping the mind sharp and acquiring new skills is very important together with negative and positive thought patterns as well. Studies have shown, it could be achieved by:

Solving puzzles, playing cards, word games: for maintaining cognition and improving memory, slowing down Dementia, Alzheimer

Playing musical instrument, playing adequate favourite sports: for staying active and coordination

Appropriate exercises, healthy diet (no food low in sugar, consume food high in fiber), healthy life style (not smoking, no alcohol consumption): for maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding the risk of fracture from fall due to excess weight, to combat arthritis, keeping heart healthy

Socializing (visiting friends, attending church-temple-synagogue, volunteering): for emotional and cognitive function, feeling needed, sense of belonging

Mindful meditation and yoga: for physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being

Preventive Health care and diagnostic testing: for detection of hearing loss, eye diseases (glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts), loss of bone density (osteoporosis), high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, other chronic conditions

As the fundamental units of the brain, neurons function to integrate and transmit a myriad of signals across vast and complex networks. Neurons by definition are continually forming, eliminating, and modulating (strengthening and weakening) connections in response to the constant flow of intrinsic and extrinsic signals. Our ability to process and synthesize information, ultimately producing behaviour, is dependent upon this neural plasticity. It is important to note that neuroplasticity is not a one-size-fits-all magic bullet.  It has tremendous benefit when used in very specific ways with appropriate activities, proper dietary and nutritional support. The science of neuroplasticity has to be customized to each individual according to their condition (Brain Plasticity is beyond the scope of this article, please study on your own for in depth knowledge).

Our brain is highly integrated organ and works closely with all our sensory organs. Neurons that fire together, wire together. If we develop any bad habit and we like it, our brain remembers that or if we are doing something over and over again, our brain learns, stores in memory that has lasting effect. We have to constantly motivate our brain to keep performing daily activities to stay in control of our life.

Science has shown Aromatherapy plays a key role in our brain health and altering brain waves, reducing the perception of stress, decreasing levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) and triggering positive emotional responses. To rewire the brain with Aromatherapy using Essential oils is through olfactory stimulation, or smelling. This can be accomplished by using diffusers, wearing necklaces that you can drop oils on to or by applying oils to the back of the neck or your pulse points behind the ears and neck area. When inhaling essential oils, the oils break down into tiny particulates, detected by your olfactory nerve, which connects the nose to the limbic system and reach the brain within seconds. Soon, every cell in the entire body will be affected. The limbic system manages memory, emotions, intuition and induces emotional states, such as; calmness, motivation and sleepiness.

Brain health oils that have been researched and tested include; Frankincense, Peppermint, Ylang ylang, Cedarwood, Cypress, Ginger, Rosemary, and Basil. Also, clinical trials suggest that Turmeric essential oil may slow or reverse neuro-degenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s and Huntington’s by significantly increasing production of neural stem cells (brain stem cells) that are essential for the repair and recovery of brain function. In-vitro research suggests that Bergamot essential oil inhibits certain enzyme activity, while Lavender essential oil has been found to protect brain neurons from degeneration or injury by increasing antioxidant enzyme activities and reducing lipid peroxidation in dementia patients.

Yoga for Maintaining Body Balance

Yoga for Maintaining Body Balance
A Lovely  Monday Morning to you all!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know……..Yoga is becoming a main stream activity. Yoga was first introduced to the Western world by Swami Vivekananda (was an Indian Hindu Monk, a chief disciple of the 19th-century Indian mystic Ramakrishna

      Yoga for Maintaining Body Balance

Paramahansa), more than a hundred years ago and is rapidly getting integrated into our public education, health care, and the workplace. Yoga is not a religion it is a spiritual and ascetic discipline, a philosophy which originated in ancient India about 5000 years ago. It helps improve the flow of energy (Prana) in body and.is an excellent energizing, relaxation technique that promotes physical and mental calm. Here are some practical benefits of Yoga that people may experience:

Increased flexibility and balance

Improved muscle strength and tone

Reduced joint pain, relaxation, and better sleep

Increased stamina and body awareness

Reduced stress, tension and apprehension

Alleviates Ability to heal physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually

Ability to increase self-worth through greater self-confidence

Capability to connect to others on a deeper, more spiritual level

Re-balance body’s entire organ function

Encourages forgiveness

One out of three elderly people of age 65 and over, is likely to fall in their lifetime. As we age, our muscle strength starts to diminish. Older people are prone to falling due to unsteadiness that increases the risk of falling and fracturing hips, legs, arms, and/or any other body part. If we lose our balance, quality of life changes due to fear of falling and anxiety starts to replace our confidence followed by many other health issues, like; high blood pressure, increase weight gain, aches-pains, stress, insomnia, etc.

To make body resilient, strong to walk, to get out of chair, increase muscle tone, to increase endurance, and calm the mind, regular practice of yoga and proper breathing technique is very important. Maintaining balance of our body is the key to our aging seniors as well as our younger generation too. We can use props, chairs or whatever helps to safely perform yoga. Yoga keeps us young and very beneficial for our overall healthy life. We can say that doing yoga on a regular basis is like long term investment for our longevity and a better physical, mental state.

Essential Oils together with Yoga facilitate healing benefits. Aromatherapy and yoga are both ancient healing practices focused on physical, mental, and spiritual health. Aromatherapy is the art and science of using Essential Oils which are natural, volatile, concentrated extract of different parts of plants. Essential Oils are incorporated to enhance the practice of Yoga for their emotional and physical benefits. Based on their therapeutic properties, Essential Oils can be used in a diffuser, or by mixing several drops with water in a spray bottle. Some of the popular Essential Oils used during Yoga are:

Lavender: decreases stress and anxiety, calming, anti-inflammatory, for sore muscles, anti-bacterial

Frankincense: grounding, balancing, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, astringent,  boost cellular regeneration, strengthens the immune system, and stimulates the lymphatic system

Eucalyptus: anti-inflammatory, decongestant, disinfectant, antiseptic

Myrrh: for immune system, anti-infectious, antiviral

Peppermint: energizing

Lemon, Orange, Grapefruit, Tangerine: calming, cleansing, purifying

Essential Oil Dilution Made Easy

Essential Oil Dilution Made Easy
A Lovely  Monday Morning to you all!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know……..Knowledge of Essential Oil dilution is crucial for the safe practice of Aromatherapy to prevent adverse reactions. Essential Oils are natural, volatile, liquid, concentrated extracts taken from the roots, leaves, seeds, bark, or blossoms of plants. Essential oils have been used for centuries as healing agent, fragrance for promoting health and relaxation, as well as an antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and an antiseptic agent. They are highly concentrated and should be diluted for a safe topical application.

The most effective way to dilute essential oils and to facilitate the absorption of essential oils is in a high quality cold pressed carrier oils from plant nuts, seeds and kernels, like; Almond, Apricot, Olive, Kukui, Wheat germ, Grape seed, and Sesame, etc. They consist mainly of a balance of antioxidant unsaturated fatty acids (unrefined oil, with nutty aroma, thin absorbent texture) and more emollient saturated fatty acids (have a neutral aroma

and a thicker, less absorbent texture). It should be stored away from heat and light to ensure their freshness.

Blending essential oils to achieve a desired aroma is fun and tricky, but can be achieved with basic understanding of essential oils and carrier oils. For lotions, creams, serums, can make up to 2% dilution as it’s applied frequently in quantity for moisturizing, soothing, while for perfume formulation, can use dilution up to 5% as it’s applied sparingly for fragrance only. Essential oils are made up of different aromatic compounds, which evaporate at different rates (notes); Top Note evaporates quickly, Middle Note contains diffusive aroma and serves to bridge top and base notes in a blend, Base Note evaporates very slowly, so the aroma lasts longer. We should try to create blends that have a harmonious balance of all three notes for aroma and therapeutic value. Here is the simple guideline for ease of dilution:

Approximate Conversion Table

Dilutions are typically 2% – 10%. For adults, a 2.5% dilution is recommended and For children under 12, 1% is generally safe.

Measurements/conversions (by volume)

30 ml = 1 fl oz = 600 drops = 2 Tbsp = 6 tsp
15 ml = 1/2 fl oz = 300 drops = 1 Tbsp
5 ml = 1/6 fl oz = 100 drops = 1 tsp
1 ml = 1/30 fl oz = 20 drops = 1/5 tsp

For 1 oz (30 ml, 600 drops) of Carrier Oil:

1% blend = 6 drops of essential oil per oz of carrier oil (1% of 600 drops (1 fl oz) = 6 drops)

Relationship Bonding

Relationship Bonding
A Lovely  Monday Morning to you all!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know…….Human beings are born with the inherent quality to love, to be loved, to long for connection, and to be a part of the community. Human relationship is the most rewarding, emotionally gratifying,

                  Relationship Bonding

as well as most hurtful, distressing fact of life. When we talk about relationship, generally the conjugal relation pops up first in our heads, but there are many other relationships like; with parents, with siblings, with children, with friends, with co-workers, with neighbours, etc. Sometimes, a friendly relationship could start even with a stranger if we have things in common and have a similar chemistry, while it takes long to develop an authentic loving relationship with our own family.

In adverse situations, it’s easy to blame and hold on to the pain, trauma. Often times, people who you trust the most are the ones who shatter your life and cause irreversible damage with their lies, excuses, without feeling any accountability. Heartbreaks and relational damages are very difficult to mend and leave a deep scar. It could trigger pain, anger, stress, anxiety, hopelessness, sadness, loss of sleep and appetite, even the will to live. Therefore, sooner the better, if we realize that such people are not worth crying for. It’s better to forget the past as a bad dream and move forward. During such time, we should believe and remind ourselves that the most beautiful, precious relationship we have in this life, is with ourselves and with the Almighty.

Important attributes to value, to maintain, and to respect any relationship, are:

Willingness to connect and value the relationship

Friendliness and understanding other’s views

Trustworthy and have open, effective communication

Like and respect each other

Provide sincere support

Look for joint contribution instead of blame

Authenticity and commitment

Managing Anger Diligently

Managing Anger Diligently
A Lovely  Monday Morning to you all!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know…..Anger is an intense emotion and often difficult to control. I was listening to a talk on Anger Management on YouTube, where the speaker said, if we put d in front of ‘anger’, it becomes ‘danger’. Therefore, think before speaking in anger, so don’t have to regret later. There is a famous phrase, Words spoken and Arrow shot from a Bow, never comes back.

“We’re not punished for the anger, but punished by the anger.” …..Buddha

Anger management is an elaborate subject that can’t be covered here in its entirety. In short, at a time, anger could be used constructively for self- reformation, to curb the evil, or to discipline (carefully without causing any harm or hurt to others), but most of the time, anger is destructive and causes aggression, problems at work, in personal relationships, in day to day life, and many more. Uncontrolled and unexpressed anger could result in chronic conditions. We are not taught to channel anger constructively and researchers studied that typically people who are easily angered, come from families that are disruptive, chaotic, not skilled at emotional communications, and don’t know how to resolve the situation.

There are two types of anger; Explosive Anger: is like spitting volcano from the mouth, which is not a good quality to possess and, Implosive Anger: where the person acts calm from outside, but bubbling from inside. They withdraw themselves from their surroundings, are grumpy, irritable, and could explode anywhere anytime, could get violent too. Generally, people who explode with exasperation are:

Control Freaks

Perfectionist

With High Expectations

Contemplate on Negative Emotions

Full of false Ego

To diffuse the feeling of anger:

Investigate the reason of anger

Learn to Forgive and see the entire picture before reaching to a conclusion

Relaxation with deep breathing, yoga, meditation, and relaxing imagery

Better communication to avoid misconception

Practice regular exercise to alleviate stress

Take time out of the busy schedule to calm the overactive mind

Avoid arguments

Learn to love yourself and accept others as they are

Practice spirituality

Together with above mentioned life style changes, use of Essential Oils through direct inhalation or use in a diffuser, can help with calming down anger. These are: Lavender, Petitgrain,  Roman Chamomile, Vitiver, Bergamot, Ginger, Patchouli, Geranium, Ylang ylang, Myrrh, etc.
