Health Benefits of Carrier Oils in Aromatherapy

Health Benefits of Carrier Oils in Aromatherapy
A Lovely Monday Morning to You All!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS. FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING

Do you know……. Carrier oils are so named because they carry essential oil onto the skin during massage and aromatherapy. Carrier oils are used to dilute concentrated essential oils for applications without

                                     Carrier Oil

experiencing any side effects. Carrier oils are usually vegetable oils derived from the seeds, kernels, or nuts of a plant. People also sometimes use Aloe Vera gel and unscented body lotions as carriers. Carrier Oils are also referred to as “fixed oils” due to the fact that they do not quickly evaporate from the skin’s surface and remain fixed on the skin. Carrier oils are obtained from fruits, nuts and seeds through Cold Pressing, Expeller Pressing, Oil Maceration, and Solvent Extraction. Macerated Oil is used as a solvent or a base oil in order to extract the fat-soluble properties of other botanical materials and become infused with their therapeutic properties. Therefore, a Macerated Oil is sometimes referred to as an Infused Oil. The most commonly used base oils are Olive or Sunflower Oils.

Most carrier oils are unscented or have light sweet, nutty scent and don’t interfere with an essential oil’s therapeutic properties. Each Carrier Oil is comprised of different components (fat-soluble vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other nutrients) that exhibit distinct characteristics, such as colour, viscosity, penetration speed, and therapeutic properties. The choice of a Carrier Oil is dependent on the desired result. Unlike essential oils, they do not evaporate. Most carrier oil is user friendly, but Peanut oil like true nuts, have potential to cause allergic reactions, regardless of their concentration. Because nut oils generally do not contain the proteinaceous part of the plant, which would cause the allergic response, they are usually not allergenic, but it is highly recommended that Peanut and nut-derived oils be avoided by those with nut allergies. These oils can be comfortably substituted with other hypoallergenic oils.

Types of Carrier Oils: Carrier Oils can be categorized by their solidity: Hard and Soft Oil

HARD OILS: are solid at room temperature. They add firmness to a finished product such as soap bars. The most popular hard oils are: Palm, Coconut. They must be melted before use.

SOFT OILS are liquid at room temperature. They add nourishing property. The most popular soft oils are: Olive, Canola, Rice bran, Sweet Almond.

Before substituting one oil for another in the formula, consider the finished product texture, the firmness, moisture, or even lather? Main carrier oils and their properties:

Nut Oils: Almond, Macadamia, Hazelnut, Walnut carrier oils. Extremely emollient, good for sensitive, dry, inflamed and sore skin, stimulate circulation, anti-inflammatory, facilitate wound healing, maintain skin tightness and elasticity.

Seed Oils: Broccoli, Carrot, Borage, Black currant carrier oils. Rejuvenate mature aging skin complexion, repair damage caused by dryness, soothe itching and discomfort caused by burns, reduce scarring.

Fruit and Kernel Oils: Coconut, Apricot, Avocado, Grape Seed, Peach Kernel, Olive. Gentle, softening, and nourishing, light in texture to moisturize, for sensitive skin, good for aging skin, anti-oxidant properties.

Essential Fatty Acid Oils: Argan, Calendula, Evening Primrose, Rosehip carrier oils. Hydrate and soothe itchy, dry, inflamed, and acne-prone skin, Anti-inflammatory, Anti-bacterial, Anti-fungal, Anti-septic, balance essential fatty acid deficiency and skin’s oil production, balance hormones, astringent properties that facilitate wound healing.

A Lovely Monday Morning to You All!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING

Do you know………. about a month back, I felt some inflammation and pain around back of my upper teeth gum. Being a Clinical Aromatherapist, I immediately thought of Clove Essential Oil. What I did, in a 5ml glass vial, I combined 2 drops of Clove Essential Oil with 1tsp of Olive Oil, mixed well, labeled. Applied 3-4 drops of this Clove oil blend on a swab tip and gently swiped the affected area being careful not to touch the swab to other parts of the mouth or lips as Clove oil is a hot, potent oil. Repeated this twice a day for couple of days. By second day, I was very happy to notice significant reduction in pain and swelling. So, continued this treatment for another 2-3 days and my pain and swelling disappeared completely. Of course, if it wouldn’t have helped in first 2 days, I would have contacted my Dentist.

Clove essential oil possess a variety of medicinal properties and have a distinct strong aroma. The main bioactive element in Clove is called Eugenol, that has strong analgesic and antiseptic properties, together with vitamin C, potassium and calcium content. Quick Glance at Pranic Healing

Quick Glance at Pranic Healing
A Lovely Monday Morning to You All!
PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING

Do you know…….. Pranic healing originated in India. It was mentioned in ancient Indian texts that sages and yogis practiced Pranic healing with body’s innate ability to heal itself to treat illnesses. Pranic Healing utilizes “Life force,” “Energy,” or “Prana”. Prana is the Sanskrit word means “Life-force” that sustains us physically, emotionally, and mentally. It has many names from ancient wisdom traditions: “Prana” is the energy that is moved in Yoga, the “Mana” used by Kahunas for healing, the Chinese refer as “Chi” that is manipulated in acupuncture and generated in Tai Chi, and it is the “Ki” used to defend oneself in martial arts Aikido in Japan, it is the “Ruah” or “Manna” mentioned in the bible and what the Greek philosophers called “Pneuma”. This invisible bio-energy or vital energy keeps the body alive and maintains good health. Now, it is practiced by hundreds across the world.

“Miracles are fantastic events, which utilized hidden laws of nature. Most people are unaware of these laws. Miracles do not break the laws of nature, they are actually based on them.”  Grand Master Choa Kok Sui.

Pranic healing is a simple, yet powerful and effective “no-touch” energy healing modality based on the fundamental principle that the body is a self-repairing entity, developed by Grand Master Choa Kok Sui, modern founder of Pranic Healing®. He developed Pranic Healing over 20 years period using experimentation and evidence-based research which has shown to have immediate positive results contributing to better health and wellbeing. The healing process is accelerated by increasing the life force or vital energy to the affected part of the body. Pranic energy comes from three different sources: the sun, the earth, and the air. We can also get Pranic energy from plants, water, and food. Pranic healing is applied on the bio-electromagnetic field (the aura, or energy body) surrounding the physical body. Researchers hope the next decade will bring significant increases in research efforts to study the impact of biofield therapies in promoting health. Pranic healing can be used to help in the healing of:

            Pranic Healing

Stress and anxiety
Increase energy levels
Improve immunity

Pain Management

During my travel this last winter, I was introduced to Master Stephen Co’s (studied and trained under Grand Master Choa Kok Sui, the founder of Pranic Healing, for over 20 years and was given the opportunity to share these teachings in the United States. He is the co-author of “The Power of Prana” & “Your Hands Can Heal You” and has been sharing these teachings worldwide since 1988) several You Tube Pranic Healing sessions as well as live zoom sessions. As a clinical Aromatherapist and a Reiki healer, I got inspired with this energy healing modality. Since then, I have been constantly working on to increase my knowledge of Pranic Healing technique and looking forward to soon incorporate into my practice.

Some of the popular Essential Oils used during Meditation and Healing are:

Do you know……..Before writing the recipe of this hand sanitizer, I couldn’t avoid mentioning the COVID-19. As the global community confronts the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, it’s every individual’s responsibility to practice adequate healthy and safe habits. With still many unknowns and emerging challenges it

DIY Easy Hand Sanitizer

is no doubt a very stressful and difficult time to find a sustainable way to cope, while meeting social, emotional, physical needs of all.

Due to extended lockdowns, the world economy is tumbling down. So, to boost the economy, Govt. in many countries, including USA, has opened up many of the offices, malls, restaurants. This doesn’t imply that the pandemic is over. It’s still there in a mammoth form and there is no promising cure available to date. Therefore, we are accountable for our own well-being and for the people surrounding us.

To help manage and reduce transmission of Corona viruses, everyone should try to follow these evidence-based easy convenient procedures:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Frequently use alcohol based hand sanitizer
  • Stay home when sick and cover your coughs and sneezes
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth after touching objects and surfaces

Energy Booster

Energy Booster
A Lovely  Monday Morning to you all!

PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know………Scientific fact is, energy flows from higher state to lower state. At present we are in the middle of global Covid-19 pandemic that has impacted everyone. With new cases of the novel Corona virus being reported daily around the world, we are scared of the uncertainties, the fear factor is very high and the collective consciousness of the world is very low. We react to situations according to our mental condition not dependent upon the situation.

Energy Booster E. Oil

We have to learn how to use, how to sense, how to pick up on vibrational energy to our advantage and to manifest our best life? Where attention goes energy flows, where energy flows things grow. If we look at our body as a garden, so to grow, to uplift our spirits, to improve our focus-concentration, we have to be at a very high state of mind to maintain the original seven natural qualities of the soul; love, peace, purity power, knowledge, love, happiness, and bliss.

As a clinical Aromatherapist, I like to utilize the therapeutic properties of Essential Oils to improve energy levels naturally. Essential oils are great natural holistic approach to feel revitalized and energetic, leading to greater productivity. Of course, if you notice your friends or family member going through a serious depressive state, then immediately seek medical attention. Essential Oils are the natural, volatile, concentrated extract distilled from different parts of the plants, used holistically to alleviate several physical and emotional ailments. When Essential Oil(s) inhaled directly or applied topically, they can influence areas of the brain that control feelings of tiredness and stress, thus leaving us feeling more awake, focused, and confident. Researchers have studied that essential oils may affect a number of biological factors; including heart rate, stress levels, blood pressure, breathing, immune function. and other causes of fatigue. Certain oils can actually provide an energy boost and a warming effect on the body caused by increased blood flow. Some of the following Essential Oils are used for boosting energy:

Citrus: Lemon, Orange, Grapefruit, Lime, Tangerine, Mandarin, Bergamot

Spicy: Black pepper, Cinnamon bark, Clove, Ginger

Bark: Frankincense

Minty: Peppermint, Wintergreen, Spearmint

Coniferous: White fir, Pine, Juniper berry, Spruce

Herbal: Rosemary, Sage, Tea tree, Thyme, Basil, Lemongrass

There are three ways we can use essential oils; direct inhalation, indirect inhalation, and topical application. For direct inhalation, simply add two drops of essential oil in your hand, rub them together, take 3-4 deep breath and you will,  instantaneously feel the response or can add essential oil to a cotton ball (or Kleenex) in a sandwich bag and inhale as required. For indirect inhalation, add few drops of essential oil(s) to a diffuser to help soothe, calm, uplift mood and energy levels in your surroundings. To apply topically, rub 1-2 drops of essential oil to your wrists, or below the feet or on the neck, or can dilute your desired essential oils with a carrier oil (Jojoba oil, Argan oil, Almond oil, Coconut oil) and use as a full body massage oil to balance nervous energy and promote positive energy.

Happiness Index

Happiness Index
A Lovely  Monday Morning to you all!

PLEASE STAY SAFE FROM CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19). FOLLOW GOOD HAND HYGIENE and MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING.

Do you know…………There is a myth, that we get happiness with materialistic things. Yes, it’s good to have money and buy all the things that money can buy for comfort and luxury. But, these are temporary fixes.

                               Happiness Index

We should wait once in a while to check if we have lost the things that money can’t buy; our health, our love, our happiness, our peace of mind, our respect, our family. Have you ever looked at a child playing with whatever is available and creates happiness for herself/himself, but as we grow, our happiness index becomes dependent on someone else, our earning, our education, our social status, our family, our need to have power over other people. When we embody real happiness for ourselves, we enrich our lives with  better decisions and choices.

Why are we unhappy? It’s because of our physical health (WHO, analysed that on an average every 100 people has 200 illnesses), our disturbed mental-emotional health, our strained relationship, our anger-ego-greed-lust-insecurity-fear, lack of understanding and accountability, conscious. These negative qualities of our personality, makes us hostile and we start blaming others for our mishaps (often without realizing, we unknowingly gave this right to others to take advantage of our trust, of our simplicity, and as a result get hurt) and in turn lose happiness. In such situations, if we perform the random act of kindness, it leads to profound happiness in life and thankfulness for the abundance is the natural impulse to express that feeling. The ability to love, to disagree

and to accept, all stems from the state of being happy. If we perform the random act of kindness, it leads to profound happiness in life. Ultimately, whatever action gives us happiness, we start repeating it frequently, and in no time it becomes our habit. That is why, taking self-care and care of our mental health is more important than ever. Happiness means exuberant health. To attain happiness, we can follow these guidelines:

  1. Staying Grounded: by regularly practicing meditation, yoga, mindfulness, and exercising, will help with our hormonal balance, which in turn will keep our stress and anxiety in check. Also, spirituality and prayer provide people to engage in a meditative act. Researchers have studies that meditation has a strong link with happiness and well-being, because it calms the body, reduces stress, and encourage positive thinking.
  2. Avoid negativity and toxic people: who pull you down, instead of being your support.
  3. Pay attention to self-care by giving yourself a TLC(tender loving care). Catching up on tasks is great, but don’t hesitate to take breaks and pause. Pamper yourself to a nice Aromatherapy massage.
  4. Indulge in activities that gives you pleasure, but you haven’t had time for it before. You deserve it.
  5. Walk in nature to get connected with your surroundings and the beautiful mother nature.
  6. Be compassionate to others and spread kindness, you will get blessings in return.
  7. Spend quality times with your loved ones.
  8. Finally, smell your favourite Essential oil that has the power to affect person’s mood.

Essential Oils are natural, volatile, liquid plant extracts with different therapeutic properties and have been used since ancient times to cure different ailments. A sense of smell is one of the five senses and a powerful connector between people and the world around them. Aromas are highly emotive and everyone reacts to scents differently based on their past experiences, memory, and emotions. This, in turn, may provide some relief in mood disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and help with feelings of happiness.Tangerine, Peppermint and Eucalyptus essential oils can help with the mental focus, discipline, and coping mechanisms, Grapefruit essential oil helps to uplift, to cheer up, while Rose absolute and Geranium essential oil brings balance of spirit and feeling of harmony. Rosemary is clarifying, Sandalwood, Clove, Frankincense essential oils, help with breathing, grounding, and to stay centered.

Note: The Happy Planet Index measures what matters: sustainable well-being for all. It tells us how well nations are doing at achieving long, happy, sustainable lives. The Global Emotions survey ranks South American countries at the top of the list. Conversely the World Happiness survey ranks Scandinavian countries highly. If you combine the results of both surveys in 2019, Canada and Iceland end up being the “happiest” countries, and not Finland or Denmark, which have grabbed the most headlines due to the popularity of the World Happiness Report. So much depends on the definition of happiness. Can read more, https://worldhappiness.report/ed/2020/#read

Disrupt Dementia with Aromatherapy

Do you know…… According to WHO (World Health Organization), more than 6 million people in the United States suffer from various types of Dementia with over 47 million people living with dementia worldwide and there are nearly 10 million new cases every year. There is a lack of awareness and understanding of dementia in most countries, resulting in stigmatization, barriers to diagnosis and care.

Dementia is a syndrome, usually of a chronic or progressive nature. Dementia occurs when nerve cells in the brain become damaged causing a variety of brain illnesses that affect memory, thinking, behavior, orientation, comprehension, language, judgement, learning capacity, and ability to perform everyday activities. Consequently, there are various types of dementia, which are generally categorized by two factors: the section of the brain damaged, and the condition. Dementia is overwhelming not only for the people who have it, but also for their caregivers and takes devastating emotional, financial, and physical toll on families. Based on the high number of individuals affected, dementia is one of the leading cause of dependency and mental impairment among the elderly population. The signs and symptoms linked to dementia can be understood in three stages:

Early stage: this stage is often overlooked, because the onset is gradual. Common symptoms include:

forgetfulness

losing track of the time

becoming lost in familiar places.

Middle stage: by this stage, the signs and symptoms become clearer and more restricting. These include:

becoming forgetful of recent events and people’s names

becoming lost at home, wandering

difficulty with communication and repeated questioning

needing help with personal care

Late stage: this stage of dementia is one of near total dependence and inactivity. Symptoms include:

becoming unaware of the time and place

having difficulty recognizing relatives and friends

having an increasing need for assisted self-care

having difficulty walking

AARP(American Association of Retired Persons) has long been committed to raising awareness of dementia related illness and educating people age 50 and older on how to maintain brain health. There is no treatment currently available to cure dementia or to alter its progressive course. Numerous new treatments are being investigated in various stages of clinical trials. However, much can be offered to support and improve the lives of people with dementia and their care givers and families. The principal goals for dementia care are:

  • early diagnosis in order to promote early and optimal management
  • optimizing physical health, cognition, activity and well-being
  • detecting and treating challenging behavioral and psychological symptoms
  • providing information and long-term support to care givers and the family

Researchers have shown that aromatherapy may be effective in helping people with dementia to relax, to improve symptoms of depression, anxiety, insomnia, and cognition in people with Alzheimer’s disease. Aromatherapy is the use of natural aromatic Essential Oils extracted from plants and plant parts, that have been used for centuries to ease various health symptoms, for skin care and relaxation. Here are some oils that have been shown to be effective in treating and controlling different symptoms of dementia when used with proper dilution:

Can be used in massage oil or sprayed on linens or diffused or can be inhaled directly. It is a good oil for care givers too. Geranium and Mandarin oils are good for this too.
  2. Peppermint: is an energizer, stimulate mind and calm nerves simultaneously. Best used in the morning, can be inhaled directly or diffused or applied topically.
  1. Rosemary: like Peppermint, it’s uplifting, stimulate mind and body, mood, depression. It can be directly inhaled or diffused or used as a spray.
  2. Bergamot: is mood elevating oil and is used to relieve anxiety, agitation, stress. It can be directly inhaled or diffused or used as a spray. It is a good oil for care givers too.
