Digestive Tea

Do you know……..People have been drinking herbal teas since centuries to help with nausea, constipation, indigestion, and as a refreshment drink. You can try some herbal teas being aware of your caffeine sensitivity and choosing accordingly. Common herbs, seeds, root, flowers used for tea are:

                   Digestive Tea

Ginger root

Marshmallow root

Fennel seeds

Coriander seeds

Ajwain seeds

Peppercorn

Dandelion flowers

Chamomile flowers

Green tea leaves

Peppermint leaves

Tulsi leaves(holy basil)

Enjoy this Digestive, Soothing Tea recipe, after consuming your meal or everyday in the morning.

Digestive Tea Recipe:

Fennel Seeds, Coriander Seeds, Ajwain(Ajowan) Seeds

Washed & Minced Fresh Ginger Root

Peppercorn(optional)

Honey or Agave Nectar(optional)

Fresh Lemon Juice(optional)

Take equal parts (I used ¼ cup each) of Fennel Seeds, Coriander Seeds, Ajwain Seeds and dry roast whole seeds in a pan for couple of minutes. Cool and store in a tight lid jar.

To make tea: Add 1tsp of the mixture to 2 cups of water in a pot, 1tsp of minced/grated fresh ginger, and 3-6 crushed peppercorn. Simmer for a minute, cover to steep, strain in a cup and enjoy hot tea. Can add lemon juice and honey or agave nectar for your desired taste.

It is not a baking recipe, so can use in approximation and adjust quantity to your taste and requirement. This is a very refreshing tea and good for digestive pain, bloating, gas. Can drink this tea every day on a regular basis.

Can make the tea simply with one ingredient also:

Dandelion Tea:  combine 2 cups of Dandelion flowers and 4 cups of water in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then remove from heat, cover, let it steep for 2-5 minutes. Strain and drink the hot tea.

Black Tea or Green Tea: steep a Black (or Green) tea bag in 1 cup (250 ml) of boiled water for 2-5 minutes before drinking it. You can also use loose Black tea leaves or Green tea leaves in the boiling water, remove from heat, cover, steep, and strain before drinking.

Fennel Tea: combine 1 teaspoon of Fennel seeds and 4 cups of water in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then remove from heat, cover, let it steep for 2-5 minutes. Strain and drink the hot tea.

Ginger Tea: combine 1teaspoon grated or chopped fresh Ginger root and 4 cups of water in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then remove from heat, cover, let it steep for 2-5 minutes. Strain and drink the hot tea.

Health Benefits of:
Fennel Seed:
These are edible seeds and taste similar to licorice, mouth freshner, high in antioxidant, flavonoids, digestive, inflammation, culinary spice.
Coriander Seed: Aids in digestion, good source of iron and magnesium, nausea, culinary spice.
Ajwain Seed: Good appetizer, abdominal pain, cough, joint pain, indigestion, culinary spice
Ginger: Used for morning sickness, heartburn, cold-flu, culinary spice

Dandelion: Flower tea promote digestion

Green tea: Green tea is rich in flavonoids and caffeine and help in improving the metabolism rate

Peppermint: Peppermint tea is good for reducing inflammation, with upset stomach, bloating, and excess gas

Marshmallow root: Tea may stimulate mucus production in digestive tract

Chamomile: The soothing effect of chamomile tea helps with acid reflux and relieving the symptoms of diarrhea

With chronic sleep issues, it’s wise to consult your physician to uncover underlying risk factors that’s impacting sleep. Otherwise, there are several Essential Oils that could alleviate sleep problem together with change in sleep routine:

Stick to a regular bedtime that helps body to get used to the routine.

Take a warm bath with essential oils that will help to relax.

Essential oils can be used both topically and through inhalation to improve the quality of sleep. The easiest way to receive the benefits of essential oils is through diffusing for 30-60 minutes before bedtime or place 2 drops of essential oil in the palm, rub hands together, cup them around nose and inhale deeply or rub 2-4 drops of diluted (in a carrier oil-coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil, sesame oil, or grapeseed oil) essential oils on the bottoms of feet/back of neck/temple/stomach.

Aromatherapy and Bursitis Pain

Rheumatology,  Bursitis, similar to tendonitis are usually the result of minor injuries or repetitive overuse of the soft tissue around muscles and bones, whereas arthritis is a degenerative joint disease that is sometimes caused by an autoimmune disorder.

Bursitis is inflammation of fluid filled sacs called bursae. Bursae, are found throughout the entire body, present near the joints. The bursae are lined with cells that form the synovial membrane and secrete the synovial fluid. They cushion and lubricate the space between bones and connective tissues (joints, tendons and ligaments), and muscles to ensure smooth movement of joints. When inflamed, movement becomes difficult and even muscles become stiff.

Bursitis is generally caused by repetitive movement and excessive pressure at a particular joint. It commonly occurs in heel, knee, shoulder, elbows, hip, and foot too. Symptoms of Bursitis:

Pain in the affected region

Swelling, redness

Warm to the touch

Stiffness

Prominent pain while moving makes movement difficult

More pain during the early morning and night

Treatment for bursitis involves:

Rest the Affected Area and avoid aggravating exercises or activities

Use Ice to Control Swelling

Stretching and move the Area

With proper care, bursitis pain usually goes away within several weeks without the need for medications or surgery. According to a 2011, article in the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, most bursitis patients respond well to nonsurgical management, including ice, activity modification, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Bursitis Pain Essential Oil Blend: 1oz

30ml Coconut or Almond Oil

5 drops Turmeric Essential Oil

5 drops Juniper Berry Essential Oil

3 drops Marjoram Essential Oil

3 drops Peppermint Essential Oil

2 drops Eucalyptus globulus Essential Oil

8 drops Vit E

Add Essential Oils, Vit E in a dark glass bottle, top with carrier oil, close, mix well, and label. Apply 3-6 drops on the affected area twice daily or as needed and massage in circular motion.

Aromatherapy Phototoxicity

Do you know……… Photosensitization is the process in which ultraviolet (UV) radiation combines with a particular substance and causes chemical or biological changes.

      Essential Oil Toxicity

Since centuries, Essential Oils have been widely used for bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal, antiparasitical, insecticidal, medicinal and cosmetic applications. Nowadays, more so in pharmaceutical, cleaning, cosmetic, agricultural and food industries. Because of the mode of extraction, mostly by distillation and cold pressed from aromatic plants, Essential Oils contain a variety of volatile molecules such as terpenes and terpenoids, phenol-derived aromatic components. Furocoumarins (most common ones are bergapten and oxypeucedanin), a special class of constituent that react when exposed to ultraviolet light and can cause photosensitization of the skin with inflammation, blistering, reddening or burning symptoms after topical application of a photosensitive essential oil. Therefore, when using a photosensitive essential oil topically, avoid sunlight for up to 12 hours after use, including tanning beds.
