Aromatherapy for SERENITY

Do you know…….. Serenity is a noun, that means, the state of being calm, peaceful, and untroubled. The word comes from the Latin serenus, meaning clear or unclouded (skies), this

                Serenity Essential Oil Spray

means calm, without storm. Meaning of serenity can vary from person to person, but the practice of serenity can help us find inner peace, abate our anger and turmoil, prepare us to avoid stressful

situations and gracefully face everyday challenges, to maintain loving relationships, even get rid of addictions that hindered in the past and can reclaim control over a hopelessness. Serenity is not just for monks, nuns and hermits hiding away in the mountains. It is an essential state of our mind, body, and soul.

It’s not easy to achieve serenity, but once achieved cannot be disrupted easily by the physical noises of the world and can’t be taken away. It is a deep, inner, spiritual serenity that envelops the soul. We should not have unrealistic expectations of perfection as there is nothing like; Perfect marriages, Perfect relationships, Perfect families, Perfect workplaces, or Perfect……anything, that exists. Therefore, it’s to our benefit to accept these facts and avoid resentments to disturb our serenity. These are some tips to practice for attaining serenity in our daily lives:

Give thanks and show your gratitude for what you have; food, shelter, clothing, job, family, good health, or whatever.

Practice acceptance, forgiveness, and be compassionate

Be kind and respectful toward others to get reciprocated

Get enough sleep: to wake up with a clear – relaxed mind.

Keep your space clean and organized to keep mind clutter free

Practice regular yoga, meditation, exercise to calm the mind from wandering and useless thoughts

Read and use serenity quotes by hanging on refrigerator, around home, on your office desk, in your car to stay reminded

Consume healthy diet

Aromatherapy is an effective tool that can be used for calming and serenity. It is a form of alternative, holistic medicine using Essential Oils due to their amazing therapeutic properties, for improving our physical, psychological and emotional well-being. Aromatherapy for Brain Blips

Do you know——–Brain Blip is a temporary inability to remember information like; forgetting names of a person-place, forgetting why you entered a room, can’t find a word want to use, etc.

             Aromatherapy for Brain Blips

Also, in our fast-paced culture of constant distractions with texts and e-mails, it’s not easy to maintain our concentration and stay focused. Sometimes, it could be very frustrating and if this brain blip gets progressively worse, then conventional medical intervention is necessary. However, together with healthy diet (Foods high in omega-3s, vitamins, and minerals are beneficial for focus, attention, and memory, like; avocados, blueberries, caffeine in moderation, flax seeds, dark leafy green vegetables and much more), regular exercise, yoga, and the use of essential oils, is a great way to keep focused throughout the day without having to deal with side effects of traditional drugs.

Essential oils are natural, volatile, aromatic plant compounds that have been used for thousands of years for their variety of health benefits. Recently, supplements containing essential oils from natural plant sources have also begun to grow in popularity. However, always seek an expert advice before ingesting essential oils in any form. Essential oils have amazing effects on our mental state by protecting our brain from damage by free radicals, stimulate the nervous system, and could elevate people’s mood as well. Using essential oils to either stimulate or relax the mind to improve focus and concentration should be practiced diligently. Mostly, essential oils high in sesquiterpenes (a class of terpenes that consist of three isoprene units. One isoprene unit has 5 carbons with hydrogens attached to it, the empirical formula C15H24) are used aromatically to promote clarity and focus. Some of the Essential Oils used for focus and concentration are:

Lavender, Cedarwood, Myrrh, Patchouli, Frankincense, Rosemary, Sandalwood, Peppermint, Spearmint, Vetiver, Lemon, Wild Orange, Clary sage, Black Pepper, Ylang ylang, Eucalyptus

On-the-Go Rollerball Blend

3 drops Peppermint Essential Oil

5 drops Frankincense Essential Oil

5 drops Rosemary Essential Oil

7 drops Wild Orange Essential Oil

10 ml Grape seed Carrier Oil

1 ml Alcohol (Vodka)

In a 10ml glass roller ball bottle, add essential oils, combine with Grapeseed oil and Vodka, Cover, label, and mix well gently. Apply on wrist, or temple, or back of neck, or under the nose as needed.

Spiritual Health

Do you know…….Spirituality is not associated with religion, rather spirituality means a good stable emotional and mental health. It brings us into a greater harmony with ourselves (something bigger than one’s self), our surroundings, and to the divine or some supreme power.

Together with our physical hygiene, it’s of utmost importance to pay attention to

                        Spiritual Health

our emotional hygiene for a healthy living. We have to erase the impression of past incidents, because nothing could be done to reverse that, rather learn from our mistakes and save our energy field from the negativity to stay emotionally vibrant. Even before drinking water and eating our food, we should consciously pause for ten seconds to give positive affirmation of the family unity, happiness, love, respect, success, and so on to the water-food. Have a diary of gratitude, help the needy, and be a  strong human being to avoid being bullied. These things are easy said than done, but we all know that practice makes us perfect. Here are some beautiful quotes for our mind and soul:

“Don’t Take Anything Personally. Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.”  Don Miguel Ruiz, Mexican author of Toltec spiritualist and neoshamanistic texts.

“We are all connected; To each other, biologically. To the earth, chemically. To the rest of the universe atomically.” Neil DeGrasse Tyson, American astrophysicist, author, and science communicator.

“It does not matter how long you are spending on the earth, how much money you have gathered or how much attention you have received. It is the amount of positive vibration you have radiated in life that matters.” Dr. Amit Ray, an Indian author and spiritual master. Well known for his teachings on Om meditation, integrated yoga, peace and compassion.

Essential oils, just like aromatic herbs have been part of spiritual awakening practices since ages. Many religions and cultures use various essential oils in their rituals, ceremonies or healing modalities, anointing, to cleanse and purify sacred places of worship by diffusing them, or by applying topically, or using different aromatic applications. Essential oils are a powerful tool for spiritual growth, angelic communication, meditation, or to simply bring out mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual benefits. Researchers are finding the powerful influence the aromas of essential oils have on brain-wave activity. Essential oils release molecules into the air that interact with the nervous and endocrine systems in such a way that alter the release of hormones and neurotransmitters involved in mood, memory, emotions, and cognition.

To erase biggest inner blocks and unlock new levels of abundance, happiness, following Essential oils could be used:.

Cedarwood, Cypress, or Juniper Essential Oil

Basil or Rosemary Essential Oil

Ylang ylang Essential Oil

Palo Santo Essential Oil

Frankincense, or Myrrh Essential Oil

Patchouli Essential Oil

Spikenard (jatamansi) Essential Oil

Lavender Essential Oil

Can diffuse a blend or individual essential oil for spiritual guidance from higher self and divine light to cut down negativity or lower energies. Or place couple of drops on your palm, rub it with your palms, inhale the scent by cupping nose with your hands, say a prayer of gratitude for everything that you are blessed with. Or place a few drops on a cotton ball or a handkerchief to carry with you to attract good luck, repel negative energies, avoiding anxiety, stress, emotional trauma, and for a better communication.

Amazing Aromatherapy

Do you know…………..The last week I was in Minneapolis, MN, for 2019 AIA (Alliance of International Aromatherapists) conference. I met several experts of this field, teachers, educators, colleagues, and attended several educational, informational presentations that empowered me being a Clinical Aromatherapist. Here are snippets of what we learnt as it’s not feasible to share the intricacies of the science of this healing modality in few minutes, which is not only aroma:

How to practice the art and science of this ancient culture of Aromatherapy within the scope of legal guidelines.

Aromatherapy is a part of Integrative Medicine like; Acupuncture, Chiropractor, Massage Therapy, Ayurveda, etc. that is used as a complementary, holistic approach to a person’s physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing in conjunction with conventional medicine. It takes into account, a complex interplay of person’s biological, behavioral, psychosocial and environmental influences. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” The concept of holism dates back to ancient Vedic culture. “properties of a whole are not determined by those of its parts” (Healy, 2016, Patestos, Anuffuro, and Walker, 2019).

How to establish a working relationship with conventional medicine practitioners to recognize Aromatherapy as a holistic patient-centered approach for symptom management?

Introduce and educate people with the therapeutic importance of safe clinical, holistic use of Essential Oils for the benefit of their overall well-being, eg: nausea, pain management, sleep problem, infection, etc.

Managing Healthy Beard with Essential Oils

Do you know…………this article is for all you gentlemen out there who keep beard. Just like the hair on our head, beard require a lot of care; maintaining, trimming, washing, and styling to stay looking their best as well- groomed beard shows your personality. Many men use beard balm and beard oil to help nourish, condition, style their beard, and to avoid the itch.

         Managing Beard with Aromatherapy

I’ll discuss here DIY recipe for your own natural beard balm. It sounds overwhelming at first, but once you would make it, you would do it repeatedly and won’t use the store bought products again. Unlike store bought products, here you will be making with love and passion and will know exactly what it consists of that you will be applying on your facial hair and can be gifted too.

Most natural Beard Balm recipes are made of:

Beeswax: is a natural product that comes from honeycomb of the honeybee with a great scent and no expiration date. It can be heated and reused without losing its properties. It is available in pellet, bar or granule form in white or yellow color. Beeswax gives beard hold and shape.

Butters: we are not talking about our normally used table butter. In most cases, shea and cocoa butter is used. Shea butter is a natural fat that’s extracted from the nuts of the Shea tree, native to West Africa. It’s solid at warm temperatures and has an off-white or ivory color. It has been used as a cosmetic ingredient for centuries due to its high concentration of vitamins and fatty acids, moisturizing, and healing properties, combined with its easy-to-spread consistency on the skin. Cocoa butter is fatty substance obtained from cocoa beans and it’s the actual butter that is used in the manufacture of chocolates, confectionery, and cosmetics. It’s relatively cheaper than shea butter Cocoa butter is high in fatty acids and phytochemicals, therefore used to hydrate, nourish, and improve elasticity of the skin. It supposedly slows skin aging by protecting against damage from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

Carrier oils: to make your beard soft. Commonly used carrier oils are Jojoba, Argan, Sweet almond, Coconut Oil, Avocado, Castor, and a few more. Most of them are moisturizing and nourishing. Depending on the properties, you choose accordingly.

Essential oils: are natural, volatile, concentrated liquid product extracted from different parts of plants and possess individual therapeutic properties. They have been used since centuries for healing and curing various ailments. Some of the essential oils used for beard products are; Bergamot, Clove, Cinnamon, Frankincense, Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Lavender, Rosemary, Tea tree, Thyme

DIY Simple Beard Balm Recipe:

1 Tablespoon Beeswax pellets

1.5 teaspoon Shea butter

1 teaspoon Jojoba oil

2 drops Tea tree Essential Oil

2 drops Cedarwood Essential Oil

2 drops Rosemary Essential Oil

1oz tin container or glass jar with lid
Fill a pot with 2 inches of water on a low-medium heat, add beeswax pellets and shea butter in a glass measuring cup and place in the hot water, keep stirring till melted and thoroughly combined. Remove from heat, add Jojoba oil, mix and bring to room temperature (3-5 mts). Now add essential oils, stir well until smooth, pour into a container or jar, close the lid, label. Let it rest for couple of hours, then use as needed. Stays good for 6-12 months.

Aromatherapy Aid to Shingles

Do you know……… Shingles is the common name of Herpes zoster, is an outbreak of a painful, itchy rash or blisters on the skin that is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox, the Varicella-zoster virus. Shingles duration is most often between 3 to 5 weeks. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 1 out of every 3 people in the United States, will develop shingles. People most at risk for developing shingles include those:

With a weakened immune system

                 Aromatherapy Aid to Shingles

Older than 50 years of age

Under excessive stress

Have experienced major trauma

Recovered from recent sickness

Shingles can affect any portion of the body, including the eyes. However, it most commonly often presents as a band of blisters on one side of body, torso, neck or face. Be sure to keep the rash and blisters clean and dry, not to touch them especially, avoid popping or picking at them, keeping them covered as much as possible. The fluid from open blisters is infectious. Shingles is generally treated by medical intervention. Vaccines are available to older people (age 60 years and over), that can help to prevent the condition, though not entirely effective. Eating a diet high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants strengthens immune system enabling it to fight the shingles virus. Researchers have found that certain essential oils with antiviral, pain-relieving properties and can boost immune system, can help to alleviate pain and itchiness associated with shingles, though further studies are needed. Essential Oils are natural, volatile, concentrated extracts of different parts of plants and have been used since centuries to cure various ailments due to their different chemical (therapeutic) properties. The following essential oils may help: Peppermint, Capsaicin, Geranium, Thyme, Lemon, Oregano, Tea tree, Chamomile, Frankincense

Acute Phase Spray Blend:

28 drops Lavender Essential Oil

12 drops Geranium Essential Oil

10 drops Chamomile Essential Oil

10 drops Frankincense Essential Oil

1oz (30 ml) Witch Hazel

1oz (30ml) Fractionated Coconut Oil or Rose Hip Oil

In a 2oz glass spritzer bottle, add essential oils, pour Witch Hazel and Coconut Oil, cover, label, and mix well. Spray (mix well before each use) on blisters twice or as needed for cooling, analgesic effect.

Pampering our Feet with Aromatherapy

Do you know…….Our feet is the most neglected part of our body, while they deserve lot of pampering. Because, our feet carry our weight (light or heavy) day after day without any vacation

except for the night time when most of us are in bed sleeping or if we are sick. We cram our feet into tight socks, gym shoes, and pinching high heels, or standing around chatting-working, or walking to class-work-to the car, or running to catch a train-bus, or exercising, etc., etc. Energetically the feet represent our connection with earth and rooting us to Mother Nature, the sense of being grounded.

There are 26 bones in each foot and there are over 7,000 nerve endings called reflexes that correspond to every organ and system within our body. By pressing on these reflex points, we can stimulate the nervous system and open energy pathways that may be blocked or congested.

That’s why when we walk bare feet on fine sand or soft grass, we get the mesmerizing euphoric feel.

We should not wait to take care of our feet only when it starts to hurt, rather give it a tender loving care (TLC) at regular interval with reflexology, footbath and foot massage with Essential oil, that can reduce pain, stress, dryness, and can have calming effect. Essential Oils are natural extracts of plants with amazing individual therapeutic properties and have been used since centuries to cure different ailments. Especially, people with diabetes can have more damaged nerve endings. Here is couple of my Essential Oil blends that you could make at home and enjoy the affordable spa like treatment.

Relaxing Sugar Pedi Scrub:

¼ cup fine white sugar

¼ cup brown sugar

½  cup olive oil(can use Almond Carrier Oil)

15 drs Lavender Essential Oil(for winter can use Cinnamon E. Oil)

15 drs Lemon Essential Oil

10 drs Peppermint Essential Oil

8 drs Geranium Essential Oil (can use Ylang ylang E. Oil)

5 dr Vit E

Mix sugar well in a glass bowl making sure no lumps present. Add essential oils in different places on sugar mixture and mix well. Add rest of the ingredients and mix well. Store in individual tin or glass containers or in a large glass jar and close the lid. Label.

The best way to take full advantage of the scrub is to have a footbath ready (heat up 2-3 pints of water, pour into a foot bowl or any large pan-tub-bucket that you could soak feet). First gently massage the scrub on your ankles and feet, then soak feet in the ready footbath till the water is warm or 10-15 minutes, gently wash off the residual scrub in the footbath water, and pat dry your feet with a towel. Or if you just want to soak the feet in warm footbath without massaging the foot scrub, add 1/4 cup of Epsom salt and some Essential Oil (may be 4 drops Lavender Essential Oil, 2 drops Lemon Essential Oil, 2 drops Tea tree Essential Oil) to give your achy-tired feet some relief, wash off any foot odour, and feel rejuvenated.
